Molecularly imprinted polymers are attractive as versatile and inexpensive materials capable of molecular recognition. Molecularly imprinted polymers are prepared by various polymerization methods in the presence of template molecules. After extraction, there remain some cavities complementary to the template molecules in shape and have an affinity even in a racemate solution. Nowadays, polymers imprinted with various kinds of templates like drugs, herbicides, sugars, nucleotides, aminoacids and proteins are more and more applied in analytics, as well as in catalysis or for synthetic processes. Especially, enantiomer separation is important in
pharmaceutical separation because different enantiomers of drugs frequently exhibit markedly different biological activities. In some cases, one of the enantiomers has side effects and even toxic effects. In current presentation, we survey traditional chromatographic methods for the separation of racemate solution and introduce the preparation method of imprinted polymeric microbeads. The enantioselective separation ability of the prepared microbeads will be presented in terms of separation factor and resolution.
