Power density of a microbial fuel cell (MFC) with two chambers separated by Nafion membrane was examined under fed-batch operations. Geobacter Sulfurredecens was immobilized on anode electrodes as a biocatalyst. The power density was measured at various acetate concentrations and at different cathode electrodes such as carbon paper, carbon paper-0.5%Pt. Maximum power density was 126.6mW/m2 at an acetate concentration of 10mM, which was approximately 7.2 times higher than that of MFC at an acetate concentration of 2.5mM. Power density also increased 3.3 times by replacing carbon paper-0% Pt cathode with carbon paper-0.5%Pt cathode. We have also studied the effect of temperature from 20 to 40oC on the power density to obtain optimal operating conditions.
