Purpose – This research aims to analyze the relationship between Enterprise digital transformation, green technology innovation, and ESG performance using data from A-share listed companies in China from 2013 to 2022, based on the Huazheng ESG rating system. Design/Methodology/Approach – This research aims to analyze the relationship between enterprise digital transformation, green technology innovation, and ESG performance using data from A-share listed companies in China from 2013 to 2022, based on the Huazheng ESG rating system. Findings – Digital transformation significantly improves corporate ESG performance, and this conclusion holds when considering endogeneity and alternative explanatory variables. Green technology innovation serves as a mediating variable in the relationship between digital transformation and ESG performance. Digital transformation promotes green innovation, thus enhancing ESG performance. Heterogeneity analysis indicates that digital transformation significantly boosts ESG performance in the Eastern and Central regions, with limited impact in the Western regions. State-owned enterprises benefit more from digital transformation than private firms, while high-tech enterprises experience stronger effects. Research Implications – These findings emphasize the importance of digital transformation in fostering ESG performance and its role in driving sustainable development through green innovation. Policymakers and enterprises can use these insights to prioritize investments in digital and green technologies, particularly in state-owned and high-tech sectors.
