현대 사회의 초고령화로 인한 인구 구조의 변화는 의료 분야에 복잡한 과제를 안겨주고 있다. 만성 질환의 증가와 복합적인 건강 문제는 기존의 기계론적 의학적 시선의 한계를 드러내며, 의료계는 새로운 접근법을 모색해야 할 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 본 논문은미셸 푸코의 ‘의학적 시선’ 개념을 통해 현대 의학의 형성과정을 재조명하고, 토마스 쿤의‘패러다임 전환’ 이론을 바탕으로 현대 의료에서 전인적 접근의 부활을 분석한다. 호스피스와 완화의료에서의 전인적 돌봄, 의료에서 영성을 다루려는 변화, 그리고 보건인문학과의학교육에서의 장애학적 관점 통합은 전인적 패러다임의 구체적인 예시로 제시된다. 이러한 변화는 단순한 현상적 변화가 아닌, 기존 기계론적 패러다임을 극복하기 위한 근본적인 체계의 전환으로 해석된다. 본 논문은 전인적 패러다임의 부활이 의료계와 사회 전반에 미치는 영향을 전망하고, 이를 통해 미래 의료의 방향성을 제시한다. 의료계의 지속가능한 발전과 인간의 총체적 건강 증진을 위해 전인적 접근의 중요성을 강조하며, 이를지원하는 교육 및 정책적 노력이 필요함을 시사한다.
The demographic changes resulting from the super-aging society in modern times have presented complex challenges for the medical field. The increase in chronic diseases and multifaceted health issues highlights the limitations of the existing mechanistic medical gaze, prompting the need for new approaches within the medical community. This paper reexamines the formation process of modern medicine through Michel Foucault’s concept of the “medical gaze” and analyzes the revival of holistic approaches in modern healthcare based on Thomas Kuhn’s theory of “paradigm shift.” Holistic care in hospice and palliative medicine, the shift toward addressing spirituality in healthcare, and the integration of disability studies perspectives in health humanities and medical education are presented as concrete examples of the holistic paradigm. These changes are interpreted not as mere phenomenological shifts but as fundamental systemic transformations to overcome the existing mechanistic paradigm. This paper explores the impact of the revival of the holistic paradigm on the medical community and society at large, thereby suggesting a potential direction for future healthcare. It emphasizes the importance of holistic approaches for the sustainable development of the medical field and the promotion of overall human health, indicating the need for educational and policy efforts to support this.
