삼현육각은 18세기 무렵에 성행하면서 삼현육각 악사들은 지방 감영문화의 가장 중요한 음악을 담당했다. 18세기 군영 및 주요 관아에는 취고수와 세악수가 귀속되었다. 지방 감영에서 각종제의와 행사 등에서 삼현육각 악사들이 음악을 연주했다. 근대 시기 삼현육각에 관한 문헌학적연구는 많지 않다. 이글에서는 근대 나주와 광주 감영의 삼현육각 존재 양상과 그 쓰임새를 규명했다. 나주목에는 경안속의 장악원 악공보와 향안속의 취고수, 취수, 차비군이 소속되었다. 광주읍에는장악원 악생 및 악공, 보인, 취타수가 있고 이외에 장악원에 소속된 노비가 있었다. 남평읍에는장악원 악생 및 악공, 취타수, 취수, 율생이 기록되었다. 나주목, 광주읍, 남평읍에는 병조와 예조에소속된 음악인들이 존재하면서 의식과 행사 등에서 삼현육각 음악을 연주했다. 나주에서는 고려시대이래 팔관회 등의 성대한 국가 또는 감영 차원의 행사가 있었고, 금성산사에서는 무당이 주재하는굿을 거행했다. 나주 신청(神廳)에서는 한식과 9월 9일에 성대한 선생안제를 개최했고, 삼현육각을비롯한 음악을 교육시켰다. 결국, 나주와 광주에서는 감영과 신청에서 각종 의식과 행사를 위한삼현육각 음악을 연주하고 교육하는 전통이 고려시대 이후 근대 시기까지 면면히 전승되었다.
The samhyeon yuggak (lit. “three strings and six winds”) ensemble was popular in the 18th century and the musicians had an important role in the provincial offices. The chwigosu (musicians of marching band) and the seaksu (musicians of small ensemble) were attached in the military and provincial offices at that time. The musicians performed music for the provincial rituals and occasions. There is a few studies about the samhyeon yuggak ensemble in the modern times. In this paper, I explore the existence and the use of the samhyeon yuggak ensemble in Naju and Gwanju provincial offices. In Naju, there were band musicians employed in the music office. In Gwanju, there were musicians and music slaves in the music office. In Nampyeong, there were band and ensemble musicians in the music office. They were attached in the office of military and the office of rites and performed music for the provincial rituals and occasions. There had been large-scale national and provincial occasions such as the Buddhist rituals and shaman rituals in Naju. At the sincheong , the office for the shaman musicians, there had been ceremonies for the teachers on Hansik day and the 9th of September. This place was also the educational center for shaman musicians. In short, there has been samhyeon yuggak ensemble for the provincial rituals and occasions in Naju and Gwangju in the modern times.
