When reflecting on Tunisia's history since the modern era, Tunisian society can be explained through the conflict of ideologies and identities from a religious perspective. Kais Sayed, who came to power as Tunisian president in 2019, is provoking yet another identity debate in Tunisia by promoting religious conservative values. In this paper, we will look at the controversy over Tunisia's identity in light of the current government's stance on women and irregular migrants, which are at the center of Tunisia's social reform and human rights policies.
