본 연구는 -reo에 모음조화가 적용되지 않는 현상에 대해서 면밀히 고찰함으로써 -reo가 명령 또는 요청을 표현하는 문법 형태소로 문법화되는 과정에 있었다는 점을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 선행 연구에서 공통적으로 제시된 -reo의 용법은 명령 또는 요청을 표현한다는 것이다. –rA가 추측과 의도를 표현하고, o가 의문 첨사이기 때문에 두 문법 형태소가 결합하면 상대방의 의도를 물어보는 의미에서 명령 또는 요청의 의미가 파생될 수 있다. 선행 연구에서는 -reo를 -rao/-reo/-roo로 실현되는 것으로 파악하지만 실제 문헌을 보면 -rao가 실현될 것으로 예상되는 경우에 -reo가 실현된다. 즉, -reo는 모음조화가 적용되지 않는 형태이다. 만주어에서 –rA와 o를 결합한 것은 언어 보편적으로 나타나는 의문문을 통하여 공손함을 갖추어 명령을 표현하는 방식과 관련이 있다. 일반적인 대화에서 가장 많이 사용될 수 있는 -reo의 용법은 명령 또는 요청일 것이다. 따라서 -reo는 명령 또는 요청을 공손하게 표현하는 문법 형태소로서 파악되었을 가능성이 높다. 문법화 원리에 대응시켜 보면 -reo는 의미적으로 축소되어 명령 또는 요청을 표현하게 되었고, 음운적으로 축소되어 모음조화가 적용되지 않게 되었다. 결론적으로 -reo는 문법화 원리에 따라 문법 형태소로 변화되는 과정에 있었다고 할 수 있다.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether -reo functions as a grammatical morpheme expressing commands or requests. To achieve this, a detailed examination was conducted on the phenomenon in which vowel harmony is not applied to -reo. Previous studies have shown that -reo expresses commands or requests. -rA represents speculation or intention and o serves as a question particle, so combining them creates commands or requests. Some studies have shown that -reo can be realized as -rao, -reo, or -roo. However, the -reo forms do not have vowel harmony. -reo is used to express polite commands through questions. -reo is most commonly used in general conversation to express commands or requests. Therefore, it is likely that -reo is a grammatical morpheme that politely expresses commands or requests. In other words, -reo was semantically reduced to express commands or requests and phonologically reduced to remove the need for vowel harmony. In conclusion, -reo was grammaticalized as a morpheme according to the grammaticalization principle.
