According to recent studies by Adelheid Ruck-Schröder, William Quillian Parkinson and others, the name of Jesus Christ, along with the kingdom of God, was the basis and core theme of the proclamation of early Christianity. It is exemplified through Luke 24:47. It is also confirmed in the introduction (Acts 1:3), main body (Acts 8:12, 16; 14:22), and conclusion (Acts 28:28), which form the overall structure of name motifs in the Acts of the Apostles. It can be interestingly compared with the first and second petitions of the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-10; Luke 11:2), which are also linked to ancient Jewish prayer formulas. The gospel of “the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ”(Acts 8:12) appears to be a characteristic of the Hellenistic Christian form of faith. In the early Christian community, the faith in the name of Jesus Christ and the proclamation to convey that name cannot be separated from suffering for the name of Jesus Christ, that is, they include a confession of the inseparable relationship between the name and suffer ing(Hebrews 13:12-15). The motif of suffering for the name of Jesus can be found in various passages of the New Testament (e.g., Matthew 24:9, 13; Mark 13:13; Luke 21:12, 17; Acts 5:41; 9:16; 15:26; 21:13; 1 Peter 4:14, 16; John 15:21; Revelation 2:3; 20:4). Among these, this paper attempted to clarify the relationship between the identity of those who believe in the name of Jesus and the sufferings they must endure in order to maintain it by analyzing in detail the relevant passages in the Acts of the Apostles from a name-theological and biblical perspective.
