본 연구는 코로나 19시기 음악 전공자들의 진로 전환 및 확장을 살펴본 연구이다. 연구의 면밀함을 위해 대상자는 졸업 후 서울형 뉴딜일자리를 경험한 성악 전공 학생으로 한정하였다. 이를 위해 비구조화된 개방형 질문지를 바탕으로 5명을 의도적으로 표본 추출하고 심층 면담하였다. 심층 면담 전사자료로 세그먼트, 초기코딩, 심층코딩을 거쳐 주제를 발견하고 생성하였다. 본 연구를 통해 밝혀진 연구 결과를 보면 연구참여자들은 예술 장의 권위주의적인 특성으로 인한 트라우마, 경쟁으로 인한 압박감, 그리고 졸업 시기에 맞춰서 다가온 코로나19로 인해 진로 장벽을 느낀다. 이 때문에 지자체가 제공한 공공일자리를 통해 진로 전환을 시도하였으나, 결국 경로의존성에 의해 다시 문화예술계의 경계에 머물기로 결정하게 된다. 본 연구는 음악 대학에서 공부했던 학생들이 음악 자체에 대한 회의보다는 예술 장과 코로나19라는 외부적인 요인으로 인해 마주하는 진로 장벽과 진로 전환, 그리고 예술과 타전공의 양자를 모두 택하는 확장의 과정에 대해서 심도있게 다루었다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다.
This study explores career changes or expansion among music major students during the Covid-19 period. To acquire more meaningful results, researchers limited research participants to classical vocal major students, who experienced the New Deal jobs of the Seoul City after their graduation. Researchers selected five participants and did in-depth interviews with them. Afterwards, using the in-depth interview data, researchers discovered themes and topics through segment formation, initial coding, and in-depth coding. Research participants frequently mentioned trauma that they obtained in the authoritarian atmosphere in the field of arts, pressures from fierce competition, and the career barriers that the Covid-19 had caused around the time of their graduation. Therefore, they tried to change their career path applying to and taking the public sector jobs that were provided by local government. However, they finally decided to stay in the field of culture and arts because of the path dependency. This study is meaningful in terms that it mapped out the dynamics of career barriers, changes, and expansion (combining arts with other fields) among young people who studied in music college especially during the Covid-19 period. It was not a feeling of doubt about music. Rather, it was external factors such as authoritarian atmosphere of the field of arts and the global pandemic that made them search for other career options.
