이 연구에서는 구어 자료를 이용하여 ‘이, 그, 저’의 담화 기능을 분석하고 각 담화표지 간 담화 기능의 차이를 살펴보았다. 또한 ‘이, 그, 저’의 담화 기능에 따른 운율실현 양상을 분석하여 각 기능과 관련된 주된 운율 특징을 조사하였다. 먼저 ‘이, 그,저’의 담화 기능을 분석한 결과, ‘이’는 발언권 유지와 강조 기능이 나타났다. ‘그’는발언권 유지, 발화 시작, 강조, 머뭇거림, 수정하기 기능이 실현되었다. ‘저’는 공손, 발화 시작, 발언권 유지, 머뭇거림 기능이 나타났다. ‘이, 그, 저’에 모두 나타나는 담화기능은 발언권 유지(디딤말, 시간 벌기) 기능이다. ‘이, 그’에만 나타나는 기능은 강조기능이고, ‘그, 저’에만 나타나는 기능은 발화 시작, 머뭇거림 기능이다. 수정하기 기능은 ‘그’에서만 나타났고, 공손 기능은 ‘저’에서만 나타났다. 또한 각 담화 기능은 복합적으로 나타나기도 하였는데, 발화 시작과 시간 벌기나 머뭇거림 기능이 함께 실현되고, 공손 기능에 발화 시작이나 머뭇거림의 기능이 함께 나타나기도 하였다. 다음으로 ‘이, 그, 저’의 담화 기능에 따른 운율 특징을 분석하기 위하여 음성 자료와 음성 분석프로그램을 이용하여 ‘이, 그, 저’의 음높이 유형, 길이, 선·후행 위치에 실현되는 휴지의 실현 양상을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 각 담화 기능에 따라 고조, 저조, 고저조의 음높이 유형과 장음과 비장음의 실현과 선행, 후행, 선·후행 위치에서의 휴지 출현 빈도를 파악할 수 있었다. 본고는 ‘이, 그, 저’에 실현된 담화 기능을 분석하여 담화표지간 담화 기능의 차이를 살펴본 점과 음성 자료와 음성 분석 프로그램을 이용하여 ‘이,그, 저’에 실현된 담화 기능별 운율 특징을 객관적으로 분석한 점에 의의가 있다.

This study is to examine the formation and text of Baebijangjeonand discuss the reality of Jeju depicted in the story. To address thestory from its formation, various versions of Baebijangjeon wereanalyzed in comparison to estimate how the story had been created,and in terms of content, it was investigated how the reality of Jejuwas reflected onto the study by investigating a few points showingthe negative image and lifestyle of Jeju. From this approach, thefollowings were revealed: First, it is assumed that the initial versionof Baebijangjeon is 󰡔Sindyeongsusang(新訂繡像) Baebijangjeon(裵裨將傳)󰡕published by Singuseorim in 1916. Second, Baebijangjeon was formulatedby integrating the editorial of Pansori with a new story creationapproach, used for a new traditional novel. It would be reasonable toassume that it was published as an old printed novel without transitionfrom the editorial of Pansori to a Pansori-style traditional novel. Third, a character ‘Aerang’ was used to negatively narrate a gisaengof Jeju along with local characteristics of Jeju and in turn, it led toa negative perception of gisaengs of Jeju and it was found to berelevant with historical facts. Fourth, it was confirmed that in thestory, the life of Jeju, which was somewhat neglected in literature of Korea,was described in detail, such as the exotic images of female divers, thereality of ship operation, and the exploitation of local specialties of Jeju. Therefore, it would be possible to consider Baebijangjeon as awork published as an old printed novel without transition from theeditorial Pansori to a classic Pansori novel: In respect of its formation,it was formulated by integrating the editorial of Pansori onto a newstory creation approach, used for a traditional novel, and in terms ofcontent, it could be defined as a work depicting and describing thereality of Jeju.
