이 글은 1962년 개최된 산업박람회를 통해 박정희정권 초기 지역에 대한 상상이 어떻게 이루어졌는지에 대해 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 우선 1962년 산업박람회의 시·도관 가운데 전남관의 전시 기획을 검토했다. 박람회 주최 측은 경제재건을 위한 방안으로 각 시·도의 국산품 선전을 중요하게 보았다. 이와 관련하여 시·도관은 각각의 시·도가 자체적으로 기획했다. 대표적으로 전남관은 기존의이미지를 벗어나 공업을 중심으로 지역 이미지를 쇄신하고자 했다. 이는 국가의경제계획과 함께하는 동시에 새로운 지역 이미지의 창출을 도모하는 것이었다. 박정희 정권은 산업박람회를 통해 지역민에 대한 이중적인 모습을 보였다. 즉, 박정희 정권은 산업박람회의 흥행을 위해 지방민의 상경을 독려했다. 동시에 상경한 지방민이 보이는 무절제, 무방비 등을 지방민의 고질적인 질병이라고 비판했다. 다시 말해, 박정희 정권은 지역민의 지지를 얻고자 하는 동시에 개조의 대상으로 지방민을 위치 지었다. 이러한 가운데 정부가 실시한 여론조사에 따르면산업박람회는 지역민에게 어느 정도 선전 효과를 얻은 것으로 보인다. 하지만박정희 정권의 지역과 지역민에 대한 상상은 현실의 지역과 괴리가 있었다. 지역민은 산업박람회의 전시에 긍정하면서도 동시에 비판하는 모습을 보이기도 했다. 이는 이후 박정희정권에 대한 지역민의 다층적인 인식을 보여주는 한 사례였다.
This article examined how imagination of the early Park Jung-hee administration was made through the Industrial Fair held in 1962. To this end, we first considered the exhibition plan of Jeonnam-gwan among the city and provincial halls of the 1962 Industrial Exposition. The organizers of the fair put importance on promoting domestic products in each city and province as a way to rebuild the economy. In this regard, each city and provincial government planned its own. For example, Jeonnamgwan tried to break away from its existing image and revamp its regional image centered on industry. This was aimed at creating a new regional image along with the national economic plan. The Park Jung-hee administration showed a double image of local residents through the industrial fair. In other words, the Park Jung-hee administration urged local people to come to Seoul for the success of the industrial fair. At the same time, he criticized the intemperance and defenselessness of local people who came to Seoul as chronic diseases of local people. In other words, the Park Jung-hee administration sought to gain support from local people and at the same time established local people as targets for remodeling. Meanwhile, according to a government poll, the industrial fair seems to have gained some publicity to local residents. However, the Park Jung-hee administration's imagination of regions and local residents was different from the actual region. Local residents were positive about the exhibition but also criticized it. This was an example of the multi-layered perception of the Park Jung-hee administration.
