본 논문의 목적은 문명 전환의 위기가 점점 더 심화되고 있는 4차 산업혁명 시대의 기술의 본질적 특성을 비판적으로 이해할 수 있는 접근법과 기술철학의 임무를 제시하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 1세대 기술철학과 2세대 기술철학의 세대교체의 의미와 여러 기술에 대한 접근법 중에서 가장 영향력이 큰 사회학적 접근법을 비판적으로 검토할 것이다. 이를 바탕으로 사회학적 접근법의 가장 큰 문제점으로 역사성의 부재와 기술 이해의 개별화와 협소화를 제기하고, 그 대안으로 기술에 대한 문화적 접근법을 제안할 것이다. 에른스트 카시러(Ernst Cassirer)의 문화철학에 기초한 문화적 접근법은 인간과 기술의 관계를 문화의 전체 틀 속에서 역사적, 총체적으로 조망함으로써 기술의 본성과 기술과 문화의 공진화를 이해할 수 있는 새로운 역사적, 문화철학적 지평을 열어줄 것이다. 더 나아가 문화적 접근법은 현대 기술이 기계문명에서 형성된 기술의 인과적 단일성과 효율성이라는 측면만이 극단적으로 강화된 것임을 밝히고, 그 극복 방법으로 기술을 문화에 재통합시킬 수 있는 방향성을 제시할 것이다.
The aim of this paper is twofold. Firstly, we examine approaches that can be deployed for critical understanding of the essential characteristics of technology in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution where the crisis of civilization is increasingly deepening. And the other goal is to present the mission of philosophy under this circumstances. For this purpose, this thesis critically reviews the philosophical meaning of the generational shift between the first and second generation philosophy of technology and the sociological approach to technology, which is considered as the most influential one among various approaches to technology. Based on the critical review, this thesis also raises the issues of lacking historicity and narrowing understanding of technology as the inherent problems of sociological approach. Subsequently, a cultural approach on the technology will be suggested as an alternative. A cultural approach is based on Ernst Cassirer's cultural philosophy. This examines the relationship between human and technology historically and holistically within the overall framework of the culture, therefore, this examination will open a new historical horizon for understanding the nature of the technology and the coevolution of the technology and the culture. In addition, this approach will reveal that the modern technology is merely a result of the machine civilization extremely reinforced only in terms of the causal unity and efficiency, and will provide a direction for reintegrating technology with culture.
