본고에서는 동시대 여성가족사 소설 시선으로부터,와 밝은 밤을 분석하고 이를 통해 한국현대사와 현재의 사회문화를 진단한다. 두 소설 모두 반복되는 폭력의 구조를 성찰하고 폭력과 야만에 맞서는 여성들의 우애를 섬세하게 서술하며 미래에 대한 전망을 제시한다. 저자 정세랑과 최은영 모두 역사서술에서 배제된 여성들의 이야기를 복원하는 것에 대해 작가로서의 책임감을 보인다. 또한 치유와 구원과 성장으로 이어지는 여성들의 연대에 깊은 신뢰를 가지고 있다. 따라서 두 소설 모두 텍스트 층층에 페미니즘의 가치가 촘촘하게 박혀있다. 한편 두 텍스트는 남성인물 형상화와 시점에서 차이를 보이고 이로 인해 두 소설은 상당히 다른 분위기를 형성한다. 서술전략의 차이에도 불구하고 두 텍스트 모두 현실을 응시하며 여성사의 진보를 인식하고 나아가는 리얼리즘의 태도를 견지한다. 이는 현실세계의 사회문화 속에서 동일한 문제의식을 공유하지만 다른 전략으로 현실에 대응하며 이상(理想)으로 나아가는 사람들에 대한 해석으로도 유용하다.
This article focuses on two contemporary women’s family history novels, From Si Sun and A Bright Night, to explore social and cultural aspects of modern Korean history reflected in those works. Both novels shared the structure of repeated violence, describe the friendship of women against violence and barbarism, and also present their prospects for the future. The authors, Jung Se-rang and Choi Eun-young, display a sense of authorial responsibility in the restoration of the stories of women who have been excluded from historical narratives and also demonstrate the construction of deep trust and solidarity among women, encompassing the states of healing, redemption, and growth. The novels therefore show feminist values embedded in the multiple layers of the narratives. Meanwhile, the two novels are distinct in terms of male characterization and perspective, which creates a very different atmosphere in each text. Despite the difference in narrative strategies, both texts contain the elements of realism that embodies historical reality and suggest the progress of women’s history. These novels therefore function as an interpretational tool for the people who share the same critical mind against the social culture of the real world and respond to reality with different strategies to move toward ideals.
