미술이 형성되고 발전하는 과정은 다양한 요소가 복합적으로 작용하는데, 특히 ‘사상’은 미술 전개에 중요한 영향을 미쳤다. 이에 본 연구에서는 선종사상이 반영된 동아시아 회화를 고찰하였다. 선종은 언어와 문자를 초월해 좌선과 수행만으로도 깨달음에 도달할 수 있다고 보았기 때문에 직관과 실천을 강조하였다. 기존의 불교는 경전과 의례의 형식 등을 중요시하였기 때문에 다양한 분야에서 불교미술이 발전하였다. 하지만 선종은 경전과 의례의 형식을 거부하고 특정 승려나 깨달음의 과정을 그리는 정도에 머무는 독특한 양상을 보인다. 종류로는 풍간(豊干)이나 한산(寒山), 습득(拾得) 등 선승들을 그린 산성도(散聖圖), 동자와 소를 통해 깨달음의 과정을 그린 심우도(尋牛圖) 등이 있다. 동아시아에서 전개된 미술이 여러 사상으로부터 영향을 받았다는 것은 주지의 사실이다. 그러므로 본 연구를 통해 선종사상이 반영된 동아시아 회화를 확인할 수 있을 것이다.


The process of art being formed and developed is a complex process of various factors, and ‘ideas’ in particular had an important influence on the development of art. Accordingly, this study examined East Asian paintings that reflect Zen Buddhism. Zen Buddhism, a sect of Buddhism, placed the most importance on the experience of intuition because it was said that one could attain enlightenment and Buddhahood through meditation or practice alone, regardless of scriptures or worship space. The distinguishing characteristic of Seon Buddhism is that it ignores scriptures and doctrines, and adheres to the four major principles of Buddhism: non-literacy, non-examination of teachings, direct knowledge and human mind, and enlightenment and enlightenment. It is to express the belief system directly through Buddha. In the end, Zen Buddhism believed that enlightenment could be reached simply through sitting meditation or repetition of certain actions, transcending language and letters, and thus emphasized the wisdom of intuition based on the mind and practice in daily life. Because Buddhism placed importance on scriptures and the form of ritual, Buddhist art developed in various fields. On the other hand, Zen Buddhism believes that enlightenment can be reached through sitting meditation and practice alone, transcending language and writing, so it shows a unique aspect of limited to depicting a specific monk or the process of enlightenment. Accordingly, in this study, it is divided into Sanseongdo(散聖圖), which depicts Zen monks such as Punggan (豊干), Hansan(寒山), and Jusuk(拾得), and Simwudo (尋牛圖), which depicts the process of enlightenment through children and cows. did. It is a well-known fact that art developed in East Asia was influenced by various ideologies. Therefore, ideology is an important criterion for understanding East Asian art.
