이 글은 '우리학교 장점 소개하기' 글쓰기를 통해 지방대 학생들의 자존감 향상을 위해 기획되었다. 글쓰기 수업에서 자기 성찰 글쓰기를 도입하여 학생들에게 자신을 되돌아보게 하고, 현재의 자신에게 자존감을 부여하도록 하는 것이 이 글의 목표이다. 한국의 대학은 서열화되어 있어, 지방대 학생들은 패배자로 인식되곤 한다. 이에 따라 지방대 학생들은 학습 의욕을 잃는 경우가 많다. '우리학교 장점 소개하기' 글쓰기는 학생들에게 자신이 다니는 대학의 장점을 이해시키는 데 초점을 둔다. 이는 일종의 위안과 치유의 글쓰기로 볼 수 있다. 우리학교 장점 소개하기는 학술적 글쓰기 연습의 일환으로 기획되었으며, 3단 구성의 5단락 글쓰기로 진행된다. 학생들에게 작성 요령을 가르치고 함께 예상 독자를 분석한다. 이 글쓰기에서는 학생들과 함께 학교의 장점을 공유하는 과정이 필수이다. 분량이 적은 만큼 장점을 카테고리화시켜서 제시하며, 자료를 구체적으로 제시하도록 요구한다. 이를 통해 학생들은 자신이 다니는 학교가 제법 괜찮은 학교임을 이해하게 된다. 그렇다면 학생들은 학교에 대한 자부심을 느끼게 되며, 학습 의욕을 갖고 미래를 설계할 수 있게 된다. 이는 교수자에게도 의욕을 가진 학생들과 마주하게 된다는 것을 의미한다. 실제로 이 글쓰기를 진행한 후 수업 평가를 통해서 학교 선택에 대한 이유를 떠올리며 자부심을 느끼는 사례가 있기도 했다. 지방대는 지역의 산업은 물론이거니와 지역문화 발전을 위해 꼭 필요한 교육기관이다. 그러므로 지방대 학생들은 자신이 속한 대학에 대한 자부심을 가질 필요가 있다. ‘우리학교 장점 소개하기’ 글쓰기가 지방대 학생들의 자존감과 학습 의욕 향상시키는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
This study has been devised to enhance the self-esteem of students at local universities and promote their enthusiasm for learning through the process of writing titled "Introducing Our School's Advantages." It is part of an initiative to incorporate self-reflective writing into the curriculum, allowing students to introspect and develop self-esteem in their current academic pursuits. In South Korea, universities are often ranked, and as a result, students at local universities can sometimes be unfairly stigmatized as underachievers. Consequently, many students lose their motivation to learn. "Introducing Our School's Advantages" focuses on helping students understand the merits of the university they attend. It can be seen as a form of consolatory and therapeutic writing. The project is fundamentally designed as an exercise in academic writing, following a three-part structure with five paragraphs. Students are provided with guidelines for writing and engage in an analysis of their expected audience. In this writing task, it is essential for students to collaborate in sharing the strengths of their university. Given the limited length, the advantages are categorized and presented, and students are encouraged to provide concrete evidence. Through this process, students come to realize that the university they attend is indeed a reputable institution. As a result, students develop a sense of pride in their university and regain their enthusiasm for learning, allowing them to plan for their future with renewed vigor. This also means that educators encounter students who are eager to participate actively in their studies. In fact, there have been cases where students, after completing this writing task, reflected on their reasons for choosing their school and felt a sense of pride, as confirmed through course evaluations. Local universities are vital for the sustainability and development of local industries and culture. To achieve this, students at local universities need to take pride in their academic institutions. "Introducing Our School's Advantages" aspires to contribute to this process.
