현대 사회에서 철도는 국민에게 편의를 제공하는 핵심 교통수단이며, 국민 복지에도 크게 기여를 하고 있다. 국민들이 이용하는 철도역은 단순히 기차가 정차하는 거점일 뿐만 아니라, 한 지역을 홍보하는 역사와 문화의 장소이고, 다양한 문화 행사와 사회적 교류가 이루어지는 공간이다. 또한 철도역은 각종 상업과 경제 활동의 터전으로 지역경제를 견인하고 있기도 하다. 따라서 철도역의 이름인 역명(驛名)은 역사‧문화적, 사회적, 경제적으로 매우상징적이며 복합적인 영향력을 갖고 있다고 할 수 있다. 이에 역명의 제정이나 개정 등은 국민 복지에 기여하는 핵심 교통수단으로서 철도의 기능, 지역정체성과 상징성, 영향력 등을 다각적으로 고려하여 합리적이고 객관적으로운영되어야만 하는 과제를 안고 있다. 본 논문은 합리적인 철도 노선 명 및역명, 역명부기의 기준 개선을 통하여, 국민의 기대와 요구에 부응하는데 목적이 있다. 최근 사례를 보면 철도 역명에 대한 국민의 관심은 과거 어느 때보다도 커지고 있어, 역명 제정 및 개정에 합리적인 방안을 마련하여 지자체간이나 사회단체 간의 불필요한 갈등 상황을 예방하고, 철도 운영에 대한 국민적 관심과 기대에 적절하게 대응할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 갈등 양상의 유형별 분석과 합리적인 개선방안을 제시하면서 철도역명의 역사적 의미를 함께 고려하는 것을 제시하였다.
In modern society, railways are Korea's core means of transportation that provide equitable convenience to all citizens, making a profound contribution to the welfare of the people. The railway station is not just a point where trains stop, but also a place of history and culture that informs an area, a place where various cultural events and social exchanges take place, and a space for various commercial and economic activities. Therefore, the station name, the name of the railway station, is very symbolic and has a complex influence in history, culture, society, and economy. The enactment or revision of the station name is a key means of transportation that contributes to the welfare of the people, and the task is to be reasonably and objectively improved in consideration of the symbolic and complex influence and ripple effect of the railway station name involved in regional identity. This paper aims to improve the standard of route name, station name, and station name bookkeeping that meets public satisfaction and expectations by improving the standard of reasonable railway line name, station name, and station name bookkeeping. The public's interest in railway station names is growing more than ever, and measures to improve objective standards were proposed not only by preventing unnecessary conflicts between different local governments and social organizations, but also by reviewing reasonable station names and standards for station bookkeeping to meet public interest and expectations. In this analysis, a plan was also suggested to consider the historical meaning of the railway station name together.
