This study was conducted to study Malay literature based on Jacques Lacan’s psychoanalytic theory. The objective of this study is to analyze the awakening of Cah's desire in the novel The Price of Dignity (2007) using Lacan's psychoanalytic theory as a methodology. In the end, all the analysis of this study will prove two famous propositions of Lacan, namely his first proposition is "The unconscious is the discourse of the Other." and the second proposition is "Man's desire is the desire of the Other.” According to Lacan, human desire originates from the Other, and human unconscious is formed under the influence of the Other. Analysis of the awakening of desire will be a process of examining the nature of desire of selected character. In this way, this study attempted a new interpretation method of desire analysis different from previous studies. Through the analysis of Cah’s desire, Lacan's first proposition is proven that the character's unconsciousness is created under the influence of the discourse of the Other. In addition, Lacan's second proposition has been proven that the desire of the chosen character is created by desiring the desire of the Other. As a result, the study on the awakening of Cah's desire is an effort to know the humanity of the Malay world. Through this study, it is hoped that the results of this study can be used and benefited by future researchers who are interested in studying literary works using Lacan's Theory.
