이 논문에서는 범허정(泛虛亭) 송광연(宋光淵, 1638-1695)의 강원도 명승에 대한 인식과 그 특징을 고찰하였다. 송광연은 39세부터 3년간 강릉에 은거하고 47세부터 2년간 강원도 방어사 겸 춘천부사로 재직하였다. 그는 지리지『동여편람』과 『춘주승람』을 편찬하고, 강릉･춘천･금강산 등 강원도 명승을직접 찾아다니며 다수의 시문을 남겼다. 송광연의 강원도 명승 인식에는 두 가지 특징이 있었다. 첫째, 기존에 알려지지 않은 명승을 새롭게 발굴한 점이다. 강릉의 초당, 춘천의 삼한동, 금강산의 운수동은 기존의 지리지나 여타 시문에는 언급되지 않은 곳인데, 송광연은직접 답사하고 시문을 남김으로써 새로운 명승으로 장소성을 부여하였다. 둘째, 기존에 잘 알려진 명승을 체험적･지리적 관점에서 새롭게 해석하여 명승의 가치를 높인 점이다. 망양정에서 바라본 웅장한 파도를 글로 형상화하는것의 한계를 지적하며 직접 체험의 중요성을 강조하였다. 아울러 망양정이 지리적으로 동해안의 강원도와 경상도의 중간지점임을 근거로, 망양정을 동해안전체에서 중심이 되는 정자로 위상을 격상시켰다. 금강산의 경우, 지리적 정보를 동원하여 중국의 오악과 비교함으로써 오악보다 명산임을 주장하여 자국의 산수에 대한 자부를 드러내었다. 이 연구를 통해 기존에 알려지지 않은 강원도의 명승을 새롭게 발굴하고, 새로운 시각에서 강원도의 명승이 지닌 가치를 제고할 수 있을 것이다.
This thesis examines Song Kwang-yeon (1638-1695)’s perception of Gangwon-do’s scenic spot and its characteristics. Song Gwang-yeon lived in Gangneung, Gangwon-do, and served as the vice-president of Chuncheon. He compiled the Jiriji, Dongyeopyeonram and Chunju Seungram, and created a number of poems on scenic spots such as Gangneung, Chuncheon, and Geumgangsan. There were two characteristics regarding Song Kwang-yeon’s scenic spot in Gangwon-do. First, a new unknown scenic spot was discovered. Song Gwang-yeon tried to establish himself as a new scenic spot by visiting Chodang in Gangneung, Samhan-dong in Chuncheon, and Unsu-dong in Geumgangsan Mountain and leaving poetry. Second, the previously well-known scenic spot was newly interpreted from an geographical perspective to increase the value of the scenic spot. Based on the fact that Mangyangjeong Pavilion is geographically the middle point between Gangwon-do and Gyeongsang-do on the east coast, Mangyangjeong Pavilion has been elevated to the central pavilion on the entire east coast. In the case of Geumgangsan Mountain, it was argued that it was more famous than Oak by using geographical information and comparing it with China’s Oak. Through this study, it will be possible to discover new previously unknown scenic spots in Gangwon-do and enhance the value of Gangwon-do’s scenic spots from a new perspective.
