이 연구는 지역 사이버 커뮤니티의 등장과 발전이 사회적 자본 형성과 쇠퇴에 어떤 긍정적 또는 부정적 영향을 줄 것인지를 규명하고자 한다. 연구는 디지털 사회에서 새롭게 등장한 지역 사이버 커뮤니티를 분석 대상으로 지역사회의 신뢰와 호혜성의 협력, 그리고 수평적 네트워크 등의 사회적 자본 형성이 가능한지를 진단한다. 연구방법론(methodology)은 사례연구(case study) 방법론을 적용했다. 분석결과 첫째, 지역 사이버 커뮤니티의 개방적인 발전 전망을 확인했다. 둘째, 지역 사이버 커뮤니티의 지역 정보와 회원간 신뢰와 호혜성, 협력, 규범이 정립되어 사회적 자본을 형성하고 있다. 셋째, <토닥토닥 원주맘> 커뮤니티는 외부 네트워크 간의 협력을 통한 교량형·연계형 사회적 자본 축적이 가능하다. 넷째, 연구를 통해 지역 사이버 커뮤니티의 시민참여와 제4섹터의 가능성을 확인했다.
This study seeks to determine what positive or negative impact the emergence and development of local cyber communities will have on the formation and decline of social capital. The study analyzes local cyber communities to determine whether it is possible to form social capital. The <Todak Todak Wonju Mom> community was chosen as a case study. The research methodology applied case studies, literature research, and participant observation. As a result of the analysis, first, the prospects for open development of the local cyber community were confirmed. Second, local information and trust, reciprocity, cooperation, and norms among members of the local cyber community are established to form social capital. Third, the <Todak Todak Wonju Mom> community is capable of accumulating bridging and linking social capital through cooperation between external networks. Fourth, the research confirmed citizen participation in the local cyber community and the potential for the fourth sector.
