최근 지속 가능한 경제와 국가경쟁력의 핵심 동력으로 부상하고 있는 ‘바이오경제’의 비전에는 생명공학기술과 정치경제의 접합이 가져올 희망찬 미래에 대한 기대와 약속이 가득 담겨 있다. 본 연구는 생명공학 산업의 정치경제학적 논리를 ‘인클로저를 통한 지대 추출’의 동학으로 파악하면서 2000년대 이후 한국의 바이오산업이 금융화된 역사적 경로와 사회적 맥락을 분석했다. 또한 과학기술과 정치경제, 문화적 논리의 ‘공동생산’이라는 관점 에서 바이오경제가 ‘영원히 재생하는 생명’이라는 생명과학적 비전과 ‘끝없이 한계를 극복 하는 경제’라는 신자유주의적 비전을 접합하여 작동한다는 점을 강조했다.
The vision of the ‘bioeconomy’, which has recently emerged as a key driver of sustainable economy and national competitiveness, is filled with expectations and promises of a hopeful future led by the biotechnology industry. This study analyzes the historical path and social context of the financialization of the bioindustry in South Korea since the 2000s by identifying the political-economic logic of the biotechnology industry as a dynamic of ‘rent extraction through enclosure’. It also emphasized that the bioeconomy operates by conjoining the biotechnological vision of ‘life that regenerates forever’ with the neoliberal vision of ‘an economy that endlessly overcomes its limits’.
