이 연구는 최근 페미니즘 리부트의 흐름 속에서 등장한 페미니스트 주체와 미디어에 관한 학술적 관심에서 소외되었던 (기혼) 유자녀 여성들의 페미니즘 실천과 이들의 미디어를 통한 정치 참여에 관해 탐구하고자 한다. 특히, 이 연구는 활동가 인터뷰, 단체 채팅방 참여 관찰, 언론보도, 서적 등을 바탕으로 ‘정치하는엄마들’이라는 시민 단체의 창립과 활동 과정을 분석했다. ‘정치하는엄마들’의 참여자들은 스스로를 사회정치적으로 취약한 ‘개인’이 아닌 돌봄 이슈를 의제화하고 그 해결책을 제도화할 수 있는 추진력을 가진 ‘정치하는엄마들’로 규정하면서 사회운동의 동력을 얻었다. 이들은 이 과정에서 시간과 물리적 기동성의 제약을 극복하기 위해 다양한 온라인 플랫폼을 창의적으로 활용했고, 레거시 미디어와 제도 정치의 장 또한 경유해 사회적 논의의 장을 개척하며 새로운 정치 참여의 조건을 만들어 나갔다. 이 연구는 어떻게 다양한 여성들이 사적인 일상과 공적인 제도와 연결된 다양한 미디어 공간을 가로지르고 엮어가며 정치적 행위자로 성장할 수 있는지 그 가능성을 보여준다.
This study aims to explore the feminist practices of (married) mothers and their political engagement through media. They have been marginalized in scholarly attention to the media practices of feminist subjects despite the sociopolitical context of Feminist Reboot. Drawing on literature, media reports, participant observation of group chat rooms, and interviews with participants, this study analyzes the foundation and activities of the civic organization called Moms for Politics. The participants of Moms for Politics derived the momentum of their social movement from their newly acquired identity, from "moms" as vulnerable individuals who were sociopolitically marginalized to "political mamas" who have the power to focus on the issues of care and institutionalize solutions. In doing so, they creatively utilized various online platforms to overcome the material conditions of caregivers with limited time resources and physical mobility, while also navigating legacy media and institutional politics to pioneer and broaden the social discourse and create new conditions for political participation. This study demonstrates the potential for diverse feminist subjects to become political actors by traversing and weaving through various media spaces connected to private lives and public institutions.
