This paper investigates the emergence of new grammatical paradigms of nominalization in Modern Korean by examining the grammaticalization process of lexical nouns, focusing on four nominal elements (e.g., cikyeng, nolus, phan, and seym, among others). The study primarily illustrates intriguing semantic and syntactic extension patterns and the process of noun evolution in Korean, highlighting the influence of the verb-final structure. This evolution progresses from the initial transformation of nouns into grammatical markers, through an intermediate stage involving defective nouns or nominalizers, to the acquisition of new grammatical functions, ultimately resulting in content or lexical nouns becoming non-content nouns. This study pays special attention to understanding the linguistic environment and processes underlying these transformations.
