이 연구에서는 부산지역 영화 제작자의 인식을 중심으로 독립영화의 정체성과 의미, 부산 독립영화와 로컬리티를 살펴보았다. 서면인터뷰, 대면인터뷰, 간담회 자료를 분석한 결과, 부산 독립영화는 과거의 사회운동성을 유지하면서도 상업영화 제작을 위한 포트폴리오나 자기서사적 기록물, 지원사업 대상으로서의 정책용어로 인식하고 있음을 확인하였다. 오늘날 독립영화라는 용어를 다층적으로 해석할 수 있는 만큼 독립영화의 지향점 역시 다양해졌다고 할 수 있다. 부산 독립영화의 로컬리티를 드러내는 전략으로는 고향이라는 장소성, 사투리로 상징되는 경상도 지역의 정서, 개항도시와 피란수도의 역사성을 들고 있으며, 영화교육과 지원제도, 부산국제영화제와 같은 인프라를 지닌 영화도시 부산의 미래에 대한 믿음에서도 로컬 인식을 확인할 수 있었다. 무엇보다 영화중심지 부산의 상상을 실현하기 위해서는 영화인의 자기 인식과 연대의 필요성을 인식하고 있다는 사실은 의미가 적지 않다. 이는 영화인으로서의 상업적 성공에서부터 사적 기록, 영화도시 부산과 사회적 담론의 형성에 이르기까지 폭넓고 다양한 욕망이 자리한 부산 독립영화의 새 지평을 열어가는 원동력이기 때문이다.
This study examines the identity and meaning of independent film and the locality of Busan independent film, focusing on the perceptions of filmmakers in Busan. After analyzing data from written interviews, face-to-face interview, and face-to-face meeting, it was found that independent film is perceived as a portfolio for commercial film production, a self-narrative record, and a policy term for support projects in Busan, while maintaining its social movement past. Today, as the term independent film can be interpreted in multiple ways, the orientation of independent film has also diversified. Strategies to reveal the locality of Busan independent films include the place of hometown, the sentiment of the Gyeongsang-do region symbolized by the dialect, the historicity of the port city and the Wartime capital, and the belief in the future of Busan as a film city with infrastructure such as film education and support systems and the Busan International Film Festival. Above all, it is significant that they recognize the need for self-awareness and solidarity among filmmakers in order to realize their imagination of Busan as a center city of film. This is a driving force to open a new horizon for Busan independent film, which has a wide range of desires, from commercial success as a filmmaker to private records and the formation of social discourse about Busan as a film city.
