이 글은 생성⋅대화형 AI인 ChatGPT를 활용한 교양 한국문학 수업의 사례를 살펴보고 이를 바탕으로 인공지능시대에 교양 문학 수업이 어떻게 변화하고 대응해야 하는지 논의하고자 한다. 2023년 한국에 ChatGPT가 알려졌을 때, 각종 뉴스에서는 1학기 개강을 앞둔 대학의 표절을 우려하며 ChatGPT로 인하여 교육계가 혼란을 겪을 것이라고 예상하였다. 그러나 생성형 AI는 우리 사회에 이미 존재하는 것으로 학생들에게 이를 금지하는 것보다는 ‘어떻게’ 활용할 수 있을지를 고민하고 교육하는 것이 필요하다. 이에 2023학년도 1학기 H대학에 개설한 교양한국문학 강의에서 생성⋅대화형 AI를 활용한 창작프로젝트를 시행하였다. 창작프로젝트를 시행하기에 앞서, 생성형 AI가 구상하는 텍스트의 복합적인 망(web)을 효과적으로 이해하고 이용할 수 있도록, 텍스트 ‘가까이 읽기’를 진행하여 학생들이 스스로 텍스트의 핵심 내용과 주제를 파악하도록 하였다. 이를 기반으로 ChatGPT를 활용한 창작품을 발표하였다. ChatGPT를 활용한 창작품은 그림, 만화, 시, 소설 등으로 나뉘었다. 학생들은 스토리 생성과정에서 ChatGPT 또는 Bard와의 질의응답을 통해 수업에서 학습한 텍스트의 주제를 환기하고 이를 기반으로 자신이 창작할 작품의 방향성을 다양한 측면에서 실험하고 그 내용을 수정, 보완하였다. 이는 생성⋅대화형 AI를 적극적으로 활용하여 그간 살펴본 문학 텍스트의 문제의식을 ‘지금-여기’에서 재탄생했다는 점에서 유의미한 작업이었다.
This article examined the case of utilizing ChatGPT, a generative and conversational AI, in a liberal arts Korean literature class. Based on this, we discussed how literature education as a university liberal arts class should change and respond in the era of AI. In the education world, research is being conducted on how to utilize generative AI. This study also conducted a creative project using generative and interactive AI in a liberal arts Korean literature class held in the first semester of the 2023 academic year. Students used ChatGPT to create drawings, cartoons, poems, and novels. During the story creation process, students reconfirmed the themes of the texts they studied in class through Q&A with ChatGPT. Based on this, they explored the direction of their works from various aspects. This is significant in that the problems of the literary texts they had learned were reborn in the ‘here and now’ by actively utilizing generative and interactive AI.
