본 연구는 이성선의 시를 프레임의 관점에서 해석한 논문이다. 프레임에 관한 그간의 논의는 프레임의 의미를 규정하는 것에서부터 시작하였다. 프레임은 몇 가지 개념으로 기술되어왔으나 용어만 달리했을 뿐 맥락은 유사하다. 프레임이 언어적 틀을 반영하고 있으며, 언어적 틀 안에서 특정한 구조를 형성한다는 것이다. 본고에서는 특정한 구조를 파악하는 데 필모어의 논의가 유용할 것으로 보고 논의를 전개하였다. 프레임은 프레임이라는 인지모형을 사용해서 언어 의미를 파악하기 때문이다. 이성선 시에서는 열거된 각각의 시어에 특정한 프레임이 환 기된다. 그러나 프레임만으로는 의미를 파악할 수 없다. 프레임이 어떠한 의미로 구조화되는지는 윤곽부여로 의미를 찾아야 한다. 윤곽부여는 프레임 속의 요소를 전경화하여 두드러지게 하는 과정이기 때문이다. 윤곽부여를 하는 과정에서는 대립 주체의 갈등 양상이 드러나거나 화자의 지향점이 밝혀진다. 또한 새로운 프레임을 내세우면서 시적 자아는 세계와 화해한다. 문학이 진리를 추구해야 한다는 점에서 다양한 프레임과 마주해야 한다. 언어를 반성적으로 인식하는 과정은 새로운 프레임을 인식하는 데에서 시작한다. 이성선 시는 세계의 한계를 파악하고, 세계와 반성적으로 화해했다는 점에서 성과가 있다.
This research paper offers an interpretation of Lee Seong-seon’s poetry through the lens of framing. The discourse on framing has historically begun with efforts to define what a frame is. While frames have been articulated through various concepts, their underlying contexts are notably similar, despite differences in terminology. This similarity suggests that frames serve as a reflection of a linguistic framework, within which they shape a distinct structure. This study explores the utility of Fillmore’s discussions in discerning distinct structures. The focus is on the concept of frames as cognitive models that are instrumental in interpreting linguistic meanings. In Lee Seong- seon’s poetry, each word conjures a distinct frame. However, frames alone are not adequate for a full understanding of meaning. The structuring of meaning within frames requires examining the process of profiling. Profiling is about foregrounding elements within a frame, making them more prominent. This process often unveils the dynamics of conflict between opposing entities or clarifies the speaker’s intentions. Additionally, by adopting new frames, the poetic self achieves a reconciliation with the world. The pursuit of truth in literature necessitates engaging with a diverse array of frames. This journey starts with the reflective recognition of new linguistic frames. Lee Seong-seon’s poetry achieves a significant milestone by acknowledging the boundaries of the world and engaging in a reflective process of reconciliation with these limits.
