노천명이 문학 활동을 하던 시기에는 대내외적으로 많은 변화가 있었던 시기이다. 그러한 변화 속에서 노천명의 시들은 백석의 그것과 일견 많이 닿아 있다. 특히 풍속을 재현한다든가 이미지즘이나 신고전주의적인 색채를 표명하는 시들은 더욱 많은 닮은 꼴을 형성하고 있었던 것이다. 여기에다 작품의 내용 역시 비슷한 국면들이 있었는데 전통지향적인 세계로의 끊임없는 여행이나 그러한 여행을 통해서 얻는 부정적 현실과의 응전 양상들이 바로 그러하다. 백석도 그러하지만 노천명은 이런 재현 속에서 근대에 대응하고 이를 초월하고자 하는 의지를 담아내었다. 이런 특색을 지닌 노천명의 시이기에 그녀의 작품들은 백석의 경우와 종종 대비되곤 한다. 하지만 분명 다른 지점도 존재한다. 노천명의 시들은 주관의 영역을 백석에 비해 좀 더 많이 담아내고 있다는 점이다. 백석의 시들이 언어에 의한 묘사를 중시하고 있다면, 노천명의 시들은 묘사에 충실하면서도 그것이 갖고 있는 의미들이라든가 형이상학적인 가치들에 대해서 보다 중시하고자 했다. 백석의 시들이 산문지향적인 특색을 갖고 있는 것은 잘 알려진 일인데, 이런 의장은 풍속을 일구어내고 과거의 삶을 재현하는 데 있어서 효과적인 의장 가운데 하나로 기능했다. 재현에 충실하기 위해서는 세세한 것들에 대한 미세한 관찰과 이를 사진기처럼 모방, 재현해야 했기 때문이다.
The period of Noh Cheon-myeong's literary activities was a time of many changes both internally and externally. Amid such changes, Noh Cheon-myeong's poems are at first glance very similar to those of Baek Seok. In particular, poems that reproduce customs or express imagism or neoclassical colors formed more similarities. In addition, the content of the work also had similar aspects, such as the constant travel to the tradition-oriented world and the aspects of responding to the negative reality obtained through such travel. Baek Seok is like that, but Noh Cheon-myeong expressed his will to respond to and transcend modern times in this reproduction. Because Noh Cheonm yeong's poetry has these characteristics, her works are often contrasted with those of Baekseok. But there are certainly other points as well. Noh Cheon-myeong's poems express the scope of her subjectivity to a greater extent than her Baekseok poems. While Baek Seok's poems emphasize description through language, Noh Cheon-myeong's poems are faithful to description and try to place more emphasis on the meanings and metaphysical values it possesses. It is well known that Baekseok's poems have prose-oriented characteristics, and this design functioned as one of the effective designs in cultivating customs and reproducing life in the past. In order to be faithful to the reproduction, it was necessary to observe minute details and imitate and reproduce them like a camera.
