마태복음의 주기도문에 나타나는 “우리가 우리에게 죄 지은 자를 사하여 준 것 같이 우리의 죄를 사하여 주시옵고(...ἄφες ἡμῖν τὰ ὀφειλήματα ἡμῶν, ὡς καὶ ἡμεῖς ἀφήκαμεν τοῖς ὀφειλέταις ἡμῶν)”는 예수 그리스도의 십자가 대속과 연관하여 죄의 용서가 공동체 안에서 이루어져야 한다는 윤리적 당위성을 가진다. 본 논문은 주기도문 ‘죄의 용서’에 관한 기독교 사상가들의 해석을 통하여 기독교 윤리적 의의를 재확인하는 데에 목적을 두고 있다. 역사적인 접근방법으로 ‘죄의 용서’에 관한 해석을 의미에 따라서 유형화하고 그 의의를 강조함으로써 기도와 실천의 윤리적 측면에서 논지를 전개하도록 하겠다. 주기도문에 나타나는 ‘죄의 용서’에 대한 사상가들의 주된 해석은 ‘죄 용서’의 선행 조건이 무엇인지에 집중하여 있다. “우리가 우리에게 죄지은 자를 사하여 준 것 같이 우리의 죄를 사하여 주시옵고”가 먼저 인간 상호 간 죄의 용서가 있어야 하나님의 용서가 이어지는 것인지, 아니면 인간에 대한 하나님의 용서가 선행되어야 인간 상호 간 죄의 용서가 가능한 것인지 사상가들의 설명이 나누어지는 것을 알 수 있다. 그러나 이런 관점과 달리 ‘죄의 용서’에 관한 공동체적 특성과 함께 죄를 지을 수밖에 없는 사회적 악의 현실과 이를 공동체적으로 극복하는 윤리적 견해 또한 매우 중요하다고 본다. 따라서 본 논고에서 ‘죄의 용서’에 대한 유형은 크게 세 가지인데 그것은 각각 ‘인간의 죄에 대한 용서의 전제 조건으로서의 하나님의 죄의 용서,’ ‘하나님의 용서 이전의 의무로서의 이웃에 대한 죄의 용서’, 그리고 ‘공동체적 책무로서의 죄의 용서’이다. 이 논문의 한계는 각 사상가의 주기도문 해석에 집중하였기에 따로 사상 배경은 다루지 않았으며 어떤 사상가들에게는 위의 유형이 구별되지 않으며 골고루 나타난다는 점도 미리 밝혀둔다.

The Lord’s Prayer is recited many times by Christians, and the part related to the forgiveness of sins, in particular, “And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us,” retains the ethical imperative that the forgiveness of sins concerning Jesus Christ’s redemption on the cross should be exercised within the community. The Lord’s Prayer in the Gospel of Matthew contains a liturgical characteristic regarding the Matthean community, is like catechism but contains a didactic function as portrayed in the Gospel of Luke, and the grace through God’s forgiveness in the community of disciples is emphasized. Taking into account the communal characteristic of the Lord’s Prayer, the prayer related to the ‘forgiveness of sin’ in particular adequately represents the ethical dynamics of the relationships between God and human beings and between human beings. The forgiveness of sin is very significant as it is a bottom-up confession seeking God’s grace by first forgiving your neighbors, not a downward self-confession where one is unilaterally forgiven like the indulgence of ‘cheap grace,’ At the same time, correct interpretation and practice of the ‘forgiveness of sin’ in a reality in which the church must clear one’s name of privatization of faith and begin bear responsibilities in the public area. The paper’s purpose is to reconfirm Christian ethics' significance through the interpretations of Christian thinkers on the ‘forgiveness of sin.’ The paper will categorize the interpretations of the ‘forgiveness of sin’ according to its meaning through the historical approach method and emphasize their meanings to unfold the paper’s argument from the ethical perspective of prayer and practice.
