본 연구의 목적은 바쁜 현대사회 속에서도 ‘자기’에 대한 끊임없는 질문을 하는 이들에게 한국인의 오래된 이야기이며 보편적 심상과 원형을 간직한 한국설화가 적절한 해답을 줄 수 있음을 밝히는 데 있다. 주인공이 역경을 이겨내는 서사 과정이 비교적 분명한 설화를 선정한 것은 설화로 하여금 개인의 긍정적 선체험이 가능하다는 사실을 입증해 보이기 위함이다. 그중에서도 전국적으로 분포되어 있는 광포설화이며 한 개인의 서사과정이 분명히 드러나 있는 「지네장터」를 선정하였다. 설화의 서사를 따라가며 주인공이 겪어 나가는 일련의 체험은 자 한 개인으로 등장하는 순이의 성장과정을 살펴보며 우리 개개인의 성장과정을 향한 해답을 찾는 여정이 될 것이다. 그리하여 기존 「지네장터」의 연구에서 분류했던 동물 보은, 희생제의, 괴물퇴치의 유형을 넘어 개인의 성장에 초점을 맞춘 ‘자기성장설화’로 분석한 첫 연구로써 앞으로의 설화 연구가 개인의 성장 관점에서 이루어질 수 있는 계기가 되는 사례가 될 것이다.
The purpose of this study is to reveal that Korean folk tales, which are old Korean stories and contain universal imagery and archetypes, can provide appropriate answers to those who constantly ask questions about ‘the self’ even in the busy modern society. The reason for selecting a tale with a relatively clear narrative process in which the main character overcomes adversity is to demonstrate that a positive personal experience of goodness is possible through the tale. Among them, we selected “Cipete Market,” which is distributed nationwide and clearly reveals the narrative process of an individual. The series of experiences that the main character goes through while following the narrative of the folk tale will be a journey to find answers to our individual growth process by looking at the growth process of Suni as an individual. Therefore, as the first study to analyze the “Cipeten Market” tale as a ‘self-growth tale’ that focuses on personal growth, going beyond the existing studies that categorized it into the types of animal repayment, sacrifice, and monster extermination, future research on the tale is expected to focus on individual It will be an example that can serve as an opportunity for growth.
