인류세 위기의 핵심이 기후-환경 문제이고 이것이 자본주의와 깊이 연관된 것이라면, 오늘날 교육에 관한 사유는 마르크스를 참조할 필요가 있다. 마르크스는 ‘물질대사’ 개념을 통해 인간과 자연 사이의 유기적 관계를 포착했다. 그런데 자본주의의 내적 속성은 인간과 자연 사이의 물질대사에 파열을 가져온다. 오늘날의 위기는 이 파열의 극단적 표현이다. 따라서 위기의 근본적 해결 방안은 자본주의를 폐지하고, 조화로운 물질대사가 가능한 사회를 건설하는 것이다. ‘자유로운 개인들의 연대(체)’에서는 필요에 따른 통제된 생산이 가능하고, 따라서 인간-자연 물질대사의 조화를 회복할 수 있다. 마르크스적 사회변혁에서 교육은 계급투쟁의 우선성을 인정하면서, 이 투쟁에 개입하여 그 방향을 적절한 곳으로 향하게 하고자 노력한다. 인류세의 ‘교육적 개입’은 조화로운 물질대사 회복을 중심에 두면서 ‘계급의식의 발전’과 ‘욕망의 재구성’을 도모한다. 이 교육적 활동은, 한편으로, 계급투쟁의 중심에 기후-환경 문제를 가져다 놓고, 문제해결을 위해 새로운 사회의 건설이 필요하다는 사실을 설득한다. 다른 한편, 이 활동은 대안사회에서 가능성으로 주어진 조화로운 물질대사의 실현을 위해 욕망을 적절하게 재구성하고자, 욕망의 토대인 사회적 조건을 변화시키는 실천에 교육적으로 개입한다. 이러한 교육은 우리 삶을 지키고 향상시키려는 일상의 투쟁과 인류의 지속가능한 미래가 불가분의 관계임을 명확하게 하는 데에서 출발할 수 있다.
If the core of the Anthropocene crisis is the climate-environment issue, and if this is deeply related to capitalism, then thinking about modern education requires one to refer to Marx. Through the concept of ‘metabolism,’ Marx captured the organic relationship between human and nature, with the inherent properties of capitalism causing a rupture in this metabolism. The current crisis is an extreme representation of this rupture. Therefore, the fundamental solution to the crisis is to abolish capitalism and build a society based on production that promotes the existence of a harmonious metabolism. In ‘the association of free individuals,’ controlled production for one’s needs is possible and, thus, the harmony of a human-nature metabolism can be restored. In Marxian social transformation, education recognizes the priority of class struggle and strives to intervene and guide it in a proper direction. ‘Educational intervention’ in the Anthropocene seeks to ‘develop class consciousness’ and ‘restructure desire’ while focusing on restoring harmonious metabolism. On the one hand, this educational activity places the climate-environment problem at the center of class struggle and argues that the construction of a new society is necessary to solve the problem. On the other hand, this activity intervenes educationally in the practice of changing the social conditions that are the basement of desire to properly reconstruct desire for the realization of a harmonious metabolism — given as a possibility in the alternative society. Such education can start from clarifying the idea that the daily struggle to protect and improve our lives and a sustainable future for humankind are inseparable.
