이 연구는 봉화의 역사적 인물인 성이성을 스토리텔링의 소재로 분석하였다. 이를 위해 그동안 발표된 자료를 통하여 성이성의 문화콘텐츠로서의 특징과 그간의 경과를 정리하고 웹 소설 『호랑이 어사 조선을 뒤흔들다』에 나타난 성이성의 스트리텔링 양상을 분석하였다. 이를 통해 문학, 역사, 지역의 측면에서 콘텐츠로서 성이성의 가능성을 높이는 것이 연구의 최종 목표이다. 그간 성이성 콘텐츠는 관과 학계, 개인에 이르는 다양한 주체들에 의해 문학적, 역사적, 지역적 콘텐츠를 아우르며 생산되어 왔다. 그러나 지역 내에서 그 지역을 대변할 수 있는 문화콘텐츠로 활용하는 방식으로 대중적 인지도를 고려하지 않았다는 점에서 한계를 보인다. 또한 디지털 시대를 고려한 확장력의 차원에서 창조적 상상력에 기초한 엔터테인먼트 스토리텔링을 보다 강화할 필요가 있다. 이를 고려할 때 웹 소설 『호랑이 어사 조선을 뒤흔들다』는 성이성 스토리텔링의 좋은 사례가 된다. 그의 암행에 대한 실제적 기록들을 바탕으로 성이성을 조선의 대표적인 암행어사로 형상화한 점, 고전소설 <춘향전>의 결말과 거리를 두며 신분의 차이가 있는 남녀의 사랑 이야기를 구현한 점, 성이성을 역사적으로 의미화하려는 작가 의식에 따라 기록의 공백을 역사적 상상력으로 채우고 있는 점에서 특히 그러하다. 이러한 사례는 성이성 콘텐츠에 대한 긍정적인 전망을 기대하게 한다.
This study analyzes the ways in which the story of Sung Yi-sung, a historical figure from Bonghwa County, has been told. To examine the characteristics of Sung Yi-sung as a cultural content, the available historical data were explored and compared with aspects of Sung Yi-sung’s storytelling in the web novel Tiger Mask-eosa(御史), Shake the Joseon. Finally, it aims to increase the value of Sung Yi-sung as literary content, historical content, and regional content. Sung Yi-sung content has been created by numerous authors in a variety of media, but common to all of them is that Sung Yi-sung content is not famous and not interesting. In particular, the web novel Tiger Mask-eosa((御史), Shake the Joseon was chosen as a good example of Sung Yi-sung storytelling because, based on the historical records of the Amhaeng-eosa(暗行御史), Sung Yi-sung was shaped as the representative Amhaeng-eosa of Joseon. Unlike the ending of the classic novel Chunhyangjeon, the love story between a man and a woman with a difference in social status is embodied. In order to signify Sung Yi-sung, the blank space in the record is filled by the author’s historical imagination, leading us to expect a positive outlook for Sung Yi-sung content.
