정기탁은 1920~30년대 상하이에서 활발히 활동했던 한국 감독이자 배우이다. 정기탁은 영향력 있는 여러 편의 영화를 연출하였고 주연을 맡기도했는데, 그중에서 <애국혼>은 가장 대표적인 작품이라고 할 수 있다. <애국혼>은 영화의 형식으로 1909년 안중근 의사가 이토 히로부미를 저격한역사적 사건을 예술적으로 해석한 영화이다. 이 영화는 상영과 동시에 중국사회 각계각층에서 인기를 끌며 상하이·베이징·톈진·항저우 등 여러지역에서 상영되었다. 20세기 상반기 중국인들이 외세의 침략에 저항하는투쟁을 지속하고 있는 상황에서 애국주의를 주제로 한 영화 <애국혼>은이런 사회추세에 맞춰 민중의 애국심을 고취하는 데 매우 큰 역할을 했다. 영화 <애국혼> 및 관련 예술 작품의 영향으로 안중근 의사는 근대 중국사회에서 모르는 사람 없을 정도로 널리 알려진 인물이 되었고, 당시 중국사회에서 영웅이자 애국자의 부호(符號)로 자리매김했다.
Jung Ki-tak was a Korean director and actor who was active in Shanghai in the 1920s and 1930s. He directed and starred in several influential movies, among which Soul of Patriotism was the most representative. It was an artistic interpretation of the historical event of Ito Hirobumi’s assassination in 1909 by An Jung-geun. As soon as it was released, it was welcomed by all sectors of Chinese society and was shown in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Hangzhou,and other places. In the first half of the 20th century, the Chinese continued to struggle against foreign aggression. The movie played an important role in inspiring patriotic enthusiasm among the general public. Consequently, under the influence of the movie and other related works of art, An Jung-geun became a well-known figure in modern Chinese society who became a symbol of heroes and patriots in Chinese society.
