본 연구의 목적은 바이오헬스 기업을 대상으로 컨버전스 신제품개발전략 – 신제품개발 조직구조 – 신제품 성과 간의 관계를 실증적으로 규명하는 것이다. 구체적으로 본 연구는 신제품개발 조직구조를 2가지 형태, 즉, 프로젝트 조직구조와 모듈러 조직구조로 분류하고, 기업의 컨버전스 신제품개발전략이 이들 조직구조 각각에 미치는 영향이 무엇이며, 차례로 이들 2가지 형태의 조직구조들이 신제품성과에 미치는 영향을 규명하는 것이다. 아울러, 본 연구는 바이오헬스 기업이 보유한 IT능력이 컨버전스 신제품개발전략 – 신제품개발 조직구조 – 신제품 성과 간의 관계에 어떠한 조절효과를 발휘하는지를 살펴보았다. 본 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 바이오헬스 기업들은 컨버전스 신제품을 개발하기 위해 프로젝트 조직구조 혹은 모듈러 조직구조를 활용하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 프로젝트 조직구조와 모듈러 조직구조는 모두 신제품성과에 긍정적 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 바이오헬스 기업들은 산업의 특성상 일반적으로 컨버전스 신제품개발전략 – 프로젝트 조직구조 – 신제품성과 경로를 선호한다. 그러나, IT능력이 높은 바이오헬스 기업들은 IT능력이 낮은 기업과 비교하여 컨버전스 신제품개발전략 – 모듈러 조직구조 – 신제품성과 경로를 더욱 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로, IT능력이 높은 기업의 컨버전스 신제품개발전략 → 모듈러 조직구조 → 신제품성과 경로 결합경로계수 값은 IT능력이 낮은 기업의 컨버전스 신제품개발전략 → 모듈러 조직구조 → 신제품성과 결합경로계수 값보다 큰 것으로 나타났다(결합경로계수 차이=0.071, p<0.05).
The purpose of this study is to empirically investigate the relationship among convergent new product development strategy, new product development organizational structure, and new product performance in bio-health companies. Specifically, this study categorizes the new product development organizational structure into two types: project organizational structure and modular organizational structure. It aims to determine the impact of the company's convergent new product development strategy on these organizational structures and, in turn, to identify the effects of these two types of organizational structures on new product performance. Additionally, this study examines how the IT capabilities possessed by bio-health companies moderate the relationship among convergent new product development strategy, new product development organizational structure, and new product performance. The findings of this study are summarized as follows. Firstly, bio-health companies utilize either project organizational structure or modular organizational structure to develop convergent new products. Secondly, both project and modular organizational structures have a positive impact on new product performance. Finally, in the bio-health industry, the path of convergent new product development strategy - project organizational structure - new product performance is generally more effective due to the industry's characteristics. However, biotech companies with high IT capabilities prefer to the path of convergent new product development strategy - modular organizational structure - new product performance. Specifically, the combined path coefficient values of convergent new product development strategy → modular organizational structure → new product performance pathways in high IT capability firms were found to be greater than those in low IT capability firms (combined path coefficient difference = 0.071, p<0.05).
