사랑은 주체의 시각으로 타자를 바라보는 것이 아니다. 사랑은 타자의 시각에서 타자를 이해하려는 노력이다. 김남조가 실천하는 사랑의 방식이 바로 이렇다. 김남조는 사랑이란 이름으로 타자를 주체의 시각에서 포획하려 하지 않고, 타자들을 위한 공간을 시 속에 마련한다. 그의 사랑은 주체와 타자, 타자와 타자 사이에서 피어나는 ‘사이’의 공명이자, 이분법적 세계관을 타파하고 질서에 균열을 일으킬 수 있는 정동(affect)이다. 이러한 그의 사랑에는 주체의 성찰성이 내재해 있는데, 성찰성은 주체를 대자적 차원으로 성숙하게 한다는 점에서 윤리적으로도 유의미하다. 김남조의 자아는 지난 경험을 망각하기보다 재인식의 대상으로 삼는다. 이러한 메타적 사유는 통상의 시각에서는 인지하지 못했던 타자를 인식하게 한다. 이러한 자기 인식의 태도는 주체에게 잠재해 있던 역량을 깨워, 내면의 이행을 통해 존재론적 고독과 슬픔을 넘어 사랑을 지향하는 주체로 거듭하게 한다. 이는 단순히 폐쇄적 상태에서 몰입하는 방식과는 다르게, 특정한 대상과 마주침(encounter)을 통해 이뤄지게 된다는 점에서 차별적이다. 이때 자아가 대면하는 비인간 자연물은 주체에게 영향을 주는 행위소로 작용하기도 한다. 김남조의 사랑은 타자와 본인의 감정을 동일시하지 않는다. 타자를 위한 무조건적인 사랑을 위시하지도 않는다. 그가 펼치는 사랑은 주체의 언어로 타자를 규정하지 않으려는 노력에서 출발한다. 사랑이라는 정동을 인간 주체만의 것으로 간직하려 하지 않고, 자연물을 비롯한 비인간 타자들의 사유로 남겨놓는 것이 김남조의 사랑이다. 이러한 특징은 주체와 타자가 만나게 되고, 타자와 타자가 공존할 수 있는 시적 공간을 마련하게 한다. 존재와 존재의 사이에서 피어나는 김남조의 사랑은 내면에 공명하는 ‘비재현적 사유’이자, ‘주체-타자’의 이분법을 해체할 수 있는 정동으로 지금도 우리와 함께 역동하고 있다.
Love is not about looking at others from the subject's perspective. Love is an effort to understand the batter from the perspective of the batter. This is the way Kim Nam-jo practices love. Kim Nam-jo does not try to capture the batter from the subject's perspective in the name of love, but makes room for the batters in the poem. His love is the resonance between the subject and the batter, the 'between' that blooms between the batter and the batter, and the emotion that can break down the dichotomous worldview and cause a crack in order. In this love, the subject's reflection is inherent, and reflection is important in that it makes the subject mature on a large-scale level. Kim Nam-jo's ego makes the past experience an object of re-recognition rather than oblivion. This meta-thinking makes others recognized that were not recognized from a normal perspective. This attitude of self-awareness awakens the latent capabilities of the subject and makes it a subject that aims for love beyond ontological solitude and sadness through inner fulfillment. This is discriminatory in that it is achieved through encountering a specific object, unlike simply immersing in a closed state. At this time, the non-human natural object facing the self may act as an act that affects the subject. Kim Nam-jo's love does not equate his feelings with others. It does not wish unconditional love for the batter. His love begins with an effort not to define the other in the subject's language. It is Kim Nam-jo's love that does not try to keep the emotion of love as a human subject's own, but leaves it as a reason for non-human others, including natural objects. These characteristics allow the subject and the other to meet, and provide a poetic space where the other and the other can coexist. Kim Nam-jo's love, which blooms between existence and existence, is still dynamic with us as a non-reproducible reason resonating inside and a feeling that can dismantle the dichotomy of "subject-other."
