Re-exploring the Feminine Gender perspective in Mythological Masterplots and Its Application to Korean Masterplot －Focused on the Representation of ‘Becoming (Different) Mother’ in the Works of Park Wan-seo and Oh Jung-hee－

마스터플롯은 이야기의 반복적 패턴이자 서사화의 작업에서 필요한 핵심적인 요소를 드러내는 문화적 구성물로, 특정 시기 문화의 구조를 반영한다. 문화적 규범과 반복적인 이야기의 패턴 (및 원형) 사이의 직접적 연관성을 고려할 때, 이에 대한 페미니즘의 관점은 구조에 내재한 젠더 규범을 성찰하는 데 긴요하다. 마스터플롯에는 시대를 관통하는 젠더 규범 또한 반영되어 있고 이러한 관습을 재현하는 플롯에 의해 재생산되어온 바 있기 때문이다. 이 점을 고려할 때, 마스터플롯은 ‘어떤 이야기를 반복했는가’를 중심으로 다시 심문될 수 있으며 이야기의 구조와 문법에 내재된 젠더를 재평가하고 재구조화함으로써 새로 쓰기 될 수 있다. 본고는 이러한 논점에 착안하여 남성 중심 신화의 마스터플롯을 해체하고 ‘여성적 개념’을 중심으로 서사의 구조를 재편성하고자 한다. 이에 오디세우스 신화 마스터플롯을 전쟁기 남성 영웅의 자아 찾기 서사에서 전쟁기 여성의 ‘(다른) 어머니 되기’의 표상의 전환으로 읽고자 하며, 이를 박완서의 작품을 중심으로 한국형 마스터플롯으로 확장해 살필 것이다. 박완서의 전쟁기 배경의 작품은 작가의 전쟁 체험을 자기 서사의 변용된 형태로 제출했다고 익히 평가받은 바 있다. 전쟁기 서사는 그녀의 작품 세계 내에서도 일종의 마스터플롯 역할을 하고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 전쟁기를 다루는 다른 한국 소설의 구심점으로 파악될 가능성이 있다. 특히 전쟁기 모녀 중심 서사가 이를 잘 보여주는데 『나목』에서부터 그 패턴이 시작되었다고 할 수 있다. 박완서의 전쟁기 ‘어머니’ 표상 서사는 아버지적 질서를 관통하는 어머니－여성 인물의 자아 세우기의 구조를 지니고 있으며, 한국 전쟁 이후의 한국 사회의 젠더 규율 속에서 여성 스스로가 호명하는 ‘어머니－되기’로 진행된다는 점에서 오정희의 「저 언덕」에서 변용된다. 이러한 구조적 유사성과 그 유비적 변용 가능성에 착안하여 박완서와 오정희의 작품을 비교하는 본고의 작업은 재해석된 여성적 개념을 한국 전쟁기 소설의 마스터플롯으로 되살핌으로써 한국 소설사를 젠더적 관점에서 다시 쓰기 하는 것에 기여할 수 있다.

This study aims to rewrite literary history by exploring recurring patterns known as the “masterplot”. Taking a feminism perspective is crucial to understanding the influence of cultural norms on these patterns, particularly the male-centered theme. By reevaluating and restructuring the masterplot’s gender aspects, it can be rewritten, allowing for a critical analysis of its gender implications. The study focuses on breaking down the male-centered mythological masterplot and emphasizing the “feminine concept” as the central structure of storytelling. For instance, the representation of wartime women’s “becoming (different) mother” undergoes transformation from a male hero’s self-discovery narrative to Korean masterplot that centers on women characters, as seen in Park Wan-seo’s works. By identifying these structural similarities and their potential for transformation, this study compares the works of Park Wan-seo and Oh Jung-hee, aiming to rewrite Korean fiction history from a gendered perspective, revitalizing femininity as a central plot in Korean war-era fiction.
