본고는 <소현성록>의 주인공과 주변인물들의 행보가 몰락해가는 가문을 재건하는 양상을 보이고 있음에 주목하였다. 몰락가문 출신 인물들은 작품 초반에 소현성에게 구제되면서 가문재건의 기틀을 마련하고, 소부가 벌열세력으로 성장하는 동안 함께 지위가 높아지며, 별전에서 후손들을 소현성의 자녀들과 혼인시켜 더욱 공교한 집단을 형성하였다. 성우경‧임수보와 같은 남성인물들의 경우 구체적인 직급이 명시되어 사회에서의 입지가 확대됨을 알 수 있었다. 그중 임수보는 주인공의 서사를 매끄럽게 연결하고 연쇄적인 사건의 초석을 마련하는 역할도 하였다. 반면 윤부인과 같은 여성인물은 남편‧자녀를 통해 지위가 상승되는 것으로 나타나 사회진출이 불가능했던 당대 여성들의 입장을 현실적으로 반영하였다. 윤부인은 소교영을 대체하는 인물로, 질부(姪婦)들을 보호하는 등 실질적인 고모의 역할을 수행하는 것으로 파악되었다. 한편 몰락가문 출신의 후손인 성씨와 임씨는 유사한 시기에 소부에 편입‧대비되어 소부의 모범적 여성상을 확인시켰다. 또한 윤부인의 딸은 장헌황후로, 외손은 인종으로 설정되어 소부의 세력 확장과 보호에 기여하였고, <소현성록>의 간행동기를 인종의 명으로 설정하여 작품의 가치를 드높였다. 한편 작품은 가문의 몰락으로 경제적 어려움에 처한 남성인물들과 정절을 의심받는 여성인물을 배치하여 가문재건의 어려움과 가문의 필요성을 설득력 있게 제시하였다. 안정적인 지위에 오른 후 후손들의 혼인이 성사된다는 설정은 몰락가문 출신 인물들이 소부의 세력 확장에 기여하도록 서사가 설계되었음을 뜻했다. 이들의 서사는 ‘양육자의 부재(고난)-소현성과의 만남(구제)-출사 혹은 혼인(가문재건)-자녀 서사(가문확대)’로 요약되어, 소현성 및 국문장편소설의 기본 서사구성과도 일치함을 확인하였다. 이러한 서사전략은 ‘성장’이라는 측면에서 독자들의 흥미와 감동을 유발할 뿐만 아니라, 인물들의 포섭 과정이 비교적 현실적이라는 점은 <소현성록>만의 미감을 발생시켰다.
This study that the actions of the protagonist and the minor characters in show a pattern of rebuilding a family that has fallen apart. The characters from the fallen clan are rescued by So Hyeon-seong at the beginning of the story, paving the way for rebuilding the family, rising in status as the So clan grows into a powerful force, and in subsequent stories, their descendants marry So Hyeon-seong's children to form an even stronger family name. By setting up impoverished male characters in the fallen family and female characters whose chastity is in doubt, this novel convincingly represents the challenge of restoring the family and why women need a family. The marriage of descendants after attaining a stable position meant that the narrative was designed to have characters from the fallen family contribute to expanding the power of So's family. The stories were summarized as "absence of a caregiver (hardship) - encounter with So Hyeon-seong (relief) - departure or marriage (family restoration) - narrative of childbirth (family expansion)," which is consistent with the basic narrative structure of So Hyeon-seong and Korean Classical Full-length Novels. This narrative strategy piqued readers' interest and touched their minds in terms of 'growth' and created a sense of beauty unique to in that accepting the characters is relatively realistic.
