본고의 목적은 ≪부산구술문화총서≫ 소재 설화를 대상으로 지역성과 공동체 의식을 고찰하는 것이다. 특정 지역에서 오랫동안 전승되어 온 이야기에는 그 지역의 지역성과 공동체 의식이 함의되어 있을 가능성이 높다. 지역 설화는 주로 지역의 환경, 인물, 사건, 인공물 등을 매개로 이야기가 전개되는데 이들이 서사적 유의미성을 지님으로써 지역성을 발현하게 된다. 또한 이러한 이야기 속에는 동일한 지리적 영역을 공유하는 사람들이 사회적으로 상호작용하는 과정에서 발현되는 공동의 의식이라 할 수 있는 공동체 의식이 내재되어 있다. 부산지역 설화를 메타적 관점으로 분석하면, ‘바다’와 ‘불교’라는 두 개의 키워드가 확인되는데 이 둘은 부산지역 설화의 메타적 존재 방식 가운데 하나라고 할 수 있다. 바다로 둘러싸인 부산지역은 중앙에서 멀리 떨어진 변방으로 외침의 경험이 많은 곳이다. 부산지역 설화에는 이러한 조건과 사건, 그리고 구조적 관계가 발현하는 상호작용이 형상화되어 있다. 논의의 결과, 부산지역 설화는 ‘바다’와 ‘불교’라는 지역성이 잘 발현되어 있으며, 바다를 삶의 터전으로 삼기 위해 그것을 이해하고 이용하려는 의식과 외침의 불안과 두려움을 극복하려는 의식을 통해 자연에 순응하고 현실에 대응하면서 함께 연대하고 협력하고자 하는 공동체 의식이 내재되어 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
The purpose of this paper is to examine locality and community spirit in the folktales of ≪Busan Oral Culture Series≫. A story that has been handed down for a long time in a specific region is likely to imply the locality and community spirit of that region. Local folktales are mainly developed through the medium of the local environment, characters, events, artifacts, etc., and these have narrative significance and express locality. Also, in these stories, there is a sense of community that can be called a common consciousness that is expressed in the process of social interaction between people who share the same geographical area. Analyzing the folktales of Busan from a meta perspective, two keywords, ‘sea’ and ‘Buddhism’, are identified, and these two can be said to be one of the meta-existence methods of the folktales of Busan. Busan, surrounded by the sea, is a periphery far from the center and has many experiences of shouting. In the folktales of Busan, these conditions, events, and interactions that emerge from structural relationships are embodied. As a result of the discussion, the regional characteristics of 'sea' and 'Buddhism' are well expressed in the folktales of Busan, and the consciousness to understand and use the sea in order to make it a place of life and to overcome the anxiety and fear of shouting to nature. It was confirmed that there is an inherent sense of community to solidarity and cooperate while adapting and responding to reality.
