본고는 부산지역 서사민요의 향유와 전승 양상을 밝히고 그 특징과 의미 및 가치를 구명하는 것을 목표로 하였다. 서사민요는 주로 길쌈이나 밭매기 등 여성들의 노동 현장에서 구연되고 비슷한 처지의 또래 여성들을 중심으로 폐쇄적인 환경에서 향유‧전승되었다. 특히 여성들은 자신과 유사한 처지의 서사민요 사설 속 화자의 목소리에 공감하면서 고난의 삶을 견뎌내는 힘을 얻었다. 여성민요에는 기층 여성들이 지닌 보편적 정서와 함께 지역의 사회적·문화적·환경적 토대를 바탕으로 형성된 지역별 정서 또한 반영되어 있다. 따라서 부산지역의 여성민요는 기층 여성들의 보편적 정서와 의식세계를 드러내는 한편, 영남지역 특히 부산지역 여성들의 의식 세계를 보여준다. 그러므로 부산지역에서 여성들이 주로 향유하고 전승한 서사민요는 지역문학으로서 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 또한 지금 현재 부산지역 서사민요의 가치와 의의를 구명함과 동시에 민요의 향방을 예측하고 전통문화의 활용과 계승을 고민하는 데에도 중요한 시사점을 줄 수 있다. 2장에서는 조사된 자료를 바탕으로 부산지역 서사민요의 존재 양상을 살폈다. 부산지역에서는 주인물-갈등 인물과의 관계를 기준으로 했을 때, 모두 7가지 상위유형, 21가지의 하위 유형의 서사민요가 향유·전승되고 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 3장에서는 현재 전승되고 있는 부산지역 서사민요의 전반적 특징을 몇 가지로 나누어 살펴보았다. 먼저 부산지역 서사민요의 전승 양상을 살펴본 결과, 서사민요는 여성의 고난과 좌절을 중심적으로 서술하는 데에서 애정과 연정, 또 적극적으로 애정을 표현하고 성취하는 여성의 모습을 그려내는 민요 중심으로 전승의 중심축이 이동하고 있었다. 둘째, 주인물에 대한 감정적 동화나 동질감을 형성하는 방식으로 서사민요가 향유되기보다 타자화된 인물에 대한 거리두기와 흥미 본위의 즐길거리로 전승되고 있었다. 셋째, 부산지역 서사민요의 전승 양상을 살펴본 결과, 음영의 구연 방식 위주에서 음영과 함께 통속민요의 가락에 얹어 부르는 방식으로 다양화되고 있었다. 이는 지금의 전승 환경에 맞게 음악적인 변화를 추구한 것으로서, 적극적으로 민요를 향유하고 있다는 것을 반증하는 것이라고 할 수 있다.
This paper aims to clarify the aspects of enjoyment and transmission of epic folk songs in Busan, and to investigate their characteristics, meanings and values. Women's folk songs reflect not only the universal emotions of women of the lower class, but also the regional emotions formed based on the social, cultural, and environmental foundations of the region. Therefore, women's folk songs in Busan reveal the world of universal emotions and consciousness of women of the lower class, while showing the world of consciousness of women in the Yeongnam region, especially Busan. Therefore, epic folk songs enjoyed and handed down in the Busan region have an important meaning as regional literature. To reveal the existence and characteristics of epic folk songs in Busan, and to pay attention to the changes surrounding women's folk songs, is to investigate the value and significance of women's folk songs in Busan, to predict the direction of folk songs, and to utilize and inherit traditional culture. It can also give important implications for thinking. As a result of examining the transmission aspects of epic folk songs in the Busan area, epic folk songs centered on affection and love in describing women's hardships and frustrations, and also depicting women who actively express and achieve affection. The central axis was moving. In addition, rather than female folk songs being enjoyed in a way of forming an emotional assimilation or a sense of identity with the main character, epic folk songs were being passed down as a way to keep a distance from otherized characters and to enjoy them based on interest. Lastly, the way of singing folk songs has changed from the way of singing as if reciting to the way of singing with joy.
