이 논문은 한국소설에 나타나 있는 ‘공항’의 재현 양상 및 그 의미를 살피는 데 목적이 있다. 공항은 경계의 다층성을 파악할 수 있게 해주는 고유한 장소이다. 그것 은 전통적으로 ‘안’과 ‘밖’을 연결하는 중간지이자 교차로의 역할을 담당해왔지만, 무 엇보다 국경이나 경계를 넘는 존재를 가시화함으로써 인종, 젠더, 계급, 국제관계에 의해 분기되는 다양한 경계인의 모습을 ‘보이도록’ 해준다. 뿐만 아니라 오늘날 세계 화시대를 맞이해 점점 더 유동적으로 변화하는 현대사회에서 공항은 새로운 재경계 화에 대한 인식을 촉구하기도 한다. 공항의 장소성이 두드러지게 표현되어 있는 박완서의 「이별의 김포공항」(1974) 과 「공항에서 만난 사람」(1978), 김애란의 「하루의 축」(2012)을 중심으로 이 논문은공항서사의 가능성을 탐색해보고자 한다. 박완서 소설에서는 1970년대의 균질화된 국민 표상으로 포섭되지 않는 다양한 경계인의 이주를 통해 추상적 수준의 국경 넘 기가 아닌 미세한 경계의 선이 어떻게 작동하는지 분석한다. 김애란 소설에서는 인천 국제공항을 배경으로 21세기 전지구적 세계화시대에 새롭게 형성되는 부동성(不動 性) 계층의 고립과 공간 격절을 통해 재경계화의 의미를 살필 것이다.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the reproduction of the “airport” in Korean nov- els and its meaning. The airport is a unique place that allows us to grasp the multilayered nature of the boundary. It has traditionally served as a middle ground and intersection con- necting “inside” and “outside,” but above all, it makes visible the presence across borders or boundaries, allowing various boundaries to be “seen” diverged by race, gender, class, and international relations. In addition, in the modern society, which is changing more and more fluidly in the face of today's globalization era, airports are also urging awareness of new fiscal boundaries. Focusing on Park Wan-seo's 「Gimpo Airport of Farewell」(1974), 「A person I Met at the Airport」 (1978), and Kim Ae-ran's 「A Day's Axis」(2012), which highlights the loca- tion of the airport, this paper aims to explore the possibility of airport narratives. Park Wan-seo's novel analyzes how fine lines of boundaries, not abstract levels of border cross- ings, work through the migration and movement of various boundaries that are not in- cluded as homogeneous national representations in the 1970s. In Kim Ae-ran's novel, we will examine the meaning of re-borderization through the isolation and space isolation of the newly formed floating class in the 21st century's globalization era against the backdrop of Incheon International Airport.
