본 연구에서는 감정 어휘 분류와 체계의 이론적 배경을 검토하여 한국과 영어 문화권 감정 어휘 번역의 가능성과 한계를 논의하고자 하였다. 영어 감정 어휘를 이해하기 위해서는 감정 어휘의 사전적 의미뿐만 아니라 감정 어휘 간의 의미론적 관계를 이해할 필요가 있다. 영어 감정 어휘가 우리말 감정 어휘와 정확히 일치하지 않을 뿐만 아니라 영어사전의 뜻만으로는 미표한 의미 차이를 전달할 수 있다고 기대하기 어렵기 때문이다. 어떤 어휘든 그 어휘가 사용되는 맥락에 따라 의미가 상이할 수 있지만 감정 어휘의 뉘앙스는 개인의 심리적 특성과 문화적 상황에 따라 의미가 크게 달라질 수 있다. 감정 어휘의 의미관계와 기능성을 고려한 개념사전을 편찬한다면 이러한 문화적 차이에 따른 감정어를 용이하게 접근할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 특히 영미권과 한국의 문학과 문화를 비교하려는 연구자들에게 작품을 깊이 있게 이해하고 문화적 정서를 공감하는 데 도움이 될 것이다. 본 연구는 감정 개념 사전 편찬의 필요성을 논의하기 위한 예비적 고찰이다. 감정 개념 사전을 구축하기 위해 한국과 영어권의 감정어를 살펴보고 영어의 감정 어휘 분류체계가 한국의 감정 어휘로 해석될 수 있는 가능성에 대해 논의하고자 한다.
In this study, it is reviewed the theoretical background of emotion vocabulary classification and system to discuss the possibilities and limitations of translation of emotion vocabulary in Korean and English cultures. In order to understand the English emotion vocabulary, it is necessary to understand the semantic relationship between emotion vocabularies as well as the English meaning of the emotion vocabulary. It is difficult to see that the English emotion vocabulary exactly matches the Korean emotion vocabulary or that the meaning can be conveyed only with the meaning of the English dictionary. Any vocabulary has different meanings depending on the context in which it is used, but the nuances of emotional vocabulary can vary greatly depending on individual emotions and cultural situations. If a conceptual dictionary considering the semantic relationship and functionality of emotional vocabulary is compiled, it is expected that it will be easy to understand emotional words according to these cultural differences. In particular, it will be helpful for researchers who want to compare literature and culture between English- speaking countries and Korea to deeply understand the work and sympathize with the cultural sentiment. This study is a preliminary study to discuss the necessity of compiling a dictionary of emotion concepts. In order to build a dictionary of emotion concepts, I will look at emotion words in Korea and the English-speaking world, and discuss the possibility that the emotion vocabulary classification system in English can be interpreted as the emotion vocabulary in Korea.
