이 연구는 예수그리스도 후기성도 교회의 가족관을 살펴보고 그들이 어떻게 가족을 강화하고 있는지를 검토한 것이다. 후기성도 교회의 교리에 따르면, 결혼이란 신이 제정하여 주신 것이며 인간이 신이 제정한 절차와 의식을 따른다면 가족은 영원히 함께 살 수 있다. 후기성도 교회의 가족관의특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 남편과 아내는 서로 돕는 동등한 동반자로 바라보고 있다. 둘째, 자녀는 신이 주신 기업이기에 안전한 환경에서 사랑으로 양육하여야 한다고 믿고 있다. 셋째, 영적인 교육뿐만 아니라 스스로를 부양하고 사회에 공헌할 수 있게 하는 세상적인 교육 역시 강조한다. 뿐만 아니라 복음을 가르치고 실천하는 데 있어서 가족이 중심이 되고 교회가 뒷받침하는 시스템을 통하여 가족을 강화하기 위한 노력을 하고 있다. 이 연구를 통하여 후기성도 교회의 가족관은 후기성도들이 가정에 충실하게 하며 가족 간의 유대를 강화하게 하는 데 도움을 주고 있음을 확인하였다.
This study examines not only the view of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on family but also how the church is strengthening its families. According to the doctrine of the Church, marriage is established by God, and if humans follow the procedures and rituals established by God, families can live together forever. The special characteristics of the Latter-day Saints’ Church on family are as follows. First, husbands and wives are viewed as equal partners who help each other. Second, since children are God-given companies, children should be raised with love in a safe environment. Third, not only spiritual education but also secular education that helps members support themselves and contributes to society are emphasized. Fourth, in teaching and practicing the gospel, efforts are being made to strengthen the family through a system centered on the family and supported by the church. This study confirms that the view of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on family helps the members of the church stay faithful to their families and strengthen ties within families.
