이 글은 2021년 1학기, H대학 <글쓰기> 수업을 CE-PBL로 운영한 사례 연구다. CE(Community Engagement) 교과란 대학과 시(市)의 상생 교육협력모델이다. H대학의 CE교과는 시가 수업활동 예산을 지원하는 관학협력 교육모델로서, 기존 교과목에 시의 현안을 과제 혹은 학습활동으로 접목하여 지역사회에 대한 이해를 높이고 학생의 참신한 아이디어 제안으로 긍정적 사회변화를 모색하기 위해 기획되었다. 교양필수교과인 <글쓰기> 수업에서 실시한 CE-PBL 관련 학습활동은 보고서와 기획서 쓰기였다. 두 개의 과제 모두 ‘지역’ 관련 주제를 선정해 학생들이 스스로 해결해야 했다. 지역 연계 과제로 보고서와 기획서 쓰기 활동을 수행하면서 학생들은 대학이 소재한 지역의 다양한 정보와 정책, 나아가 문제점까지 알게 되었다. 지금까지 지역의 문제는 ‘나’가 아니라 ‘누군가’가 해결할 거라는 안이하고 수동적인 생각을 갖고 살아온 학생들은 연고 도시의 대학생으로서 소속감과 사회적 책임감을 경험하게 되었다. 학생들이 능동적이고 주체적으로 참여해서 지역사회에 관심을 갖고 문제점을 해결해 본 학습 경험은 앞으로 그들이 공동체의 일원으로 살아가는 데 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것이다. 지역과 대학의 상생을 위해서도 대학의 교양교과목 수업에 CE-PBL을 적극 도입할 필요가 있다.
This article is a case study that operated the ‘Writing’ class of H University as CE-PBL in the first semester of 2021. CE(Community Engagement) curriculum is a win-win education cooperation model between universities and cities. The CE course of H University is a government- academic cooperation education model in which the city supports the budget for class activities, and is designed to enhance understanding of the community and seek positive social change with fresh ideas from students. CE-related learning activities conducted in the ‘Writing’ class, a liberal arts compulsory subject, were writing reports and proposal. In both tasks, learners had to solve themselves by selecting topics related to “regional”. As they carried out reports and planning activities as regional-linked tasks, students learned various information, policies, and even problems in the city where their university is located. Until now, learners who have lived with a complacent and passive idea that “someone” will solve local problems, not “me”, have experienced a sense of belonging and social responsibility as college students in their hometown. The learning experience in which learners actively and independently participate in solving problems with interest in the community will have a positive effect on living as members of the community. In addition, it is necessary to actively introduce CE-PBL in liberal arts classes at universities for the coexistence of regions and universities.
