이 글은 재일조선인작가 김석범의 방한 기행문 읽기를 통해 13회에 걸친 방한 경위와 그 의미를 분석하고, 2022년에 간행된 작품집 『보름달 아래 붉은 바다』에 담긴 기억과 역사를 횡단하는 자전적 글쓰기의 특징에 관한 고찰을 목적으로 한다. 김석범의 방한 기행문을 통해 (1) 권력에 영합하지 않는 조건 없는 한국행을 관철하고자 하는 자세, (2) 제주4·3항쟁의 진상규명과 진정한 해방을 위해 필요한 연대와 네트워크, (3) 4·3운동과 문학자가 지향해야 할 길의 본연적 방향성과 윤리성을사유하게 하는 글쓰기를 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 방한 기록과 사유의 흔적이 다분한 최신작 『보름달 아래 붉은 바다』(CUON, 2022)에는 「소거된 고독」, 「보름달 아래 붉은 바다」, 「땅의 동통」이 라는 세 작품이 수록되어 있다. 이들 작품의 주인공인 작가 K의 내력과 작품은 김석범을 가리킨다. 이처럼 소설텍스트 안팎의 경계를 지우는 작풍은 그간의 김석범 문학과는 거리가 있는 것이라 할 수 있다. 그런데 왜 김석범은 생애 마지막 소설이 될 이들 작품들에서 자전적 글쓰기를 하고 있는가? 김석범은 70여 년에 걸쳐 일본(어) 공론장에서 소설이라는 방법과 표현을 통해 4·3을 공론화하고 하나의 대항담론으로써 역사화하고자 했다. 4·3을 직접 체험하지 않은 김석범은 비당사자로서 4·3에 대한기억과 재현의 한계를 문학적 상상력을 통해 보완하고 역사적 시공간을 달리하는 사건들과 교차시키며 보편성으로 다가서고자 한다. 이 같은 자전적 글쓰기는 기억과 역사의 문제를 대하는 김석범의 삶의 태도 그 자체를 보여준다.
This article analyzes the circumstances and meaning of 13visits to Korea through reading travel essays by ZainichiKorean writer Kim Sok-pom. And this paper’s purpose is toexamine the characteristics of autobiographical writing thatcrosses memories and history in Red Sea under the Full Moonpublished in 2022. The following three characteristics of writing as a writercan be confirmed through reading Kim Sok-pom’s travelessays. First, it is the attitude to carry out unconditional travelto Korea that does not conform to power. Second, solidarityand network necessary for the truth and true liberation of theJeju 4·3 Resistance. and Third, it is the original direction andethics of the Jeju 4·3 Movement and a writer. The latest work, Red Sea under the Full Moon(CUON,2022); contains three works, “Revolved Solitude,” “Red Seaunder the Full Moon,” and “Pains on the Ground” which hasmany traces of visiting Korea’s records and philosophicalthinking. The history and works of writer K, the protagonist of these works, indicates Kim Sok-pom. In this way, the style ofwriting that clears the boundaries inside and outside the noveltext is far from the literature of Kim Sok-pom. But why is KimSok-pom doing autobiographical writing in these works, whichwill be the last novel in his life? For more than 70 years, KimSok-pom tried to publicize the Jeju 4·3 Resistance throughthe method and expression of a novel in the Japanese publicsphere and make it historical as a counter-discussion. Kim Sok-pom, who has not experienced the Jeju 4·3Resistance, wants to supplement the memory and limitations ofthe Jeju 4·3 Resistance through literary imagination, intersectevents that differ in historical time and space, and approachuniversality. Such autobiographical writing shows KimSok-pom’s attitude toward memories and history itself.
