≪경북동남부 방언사전≫(정석호, 글누림, 2007)은 경상북도 동남부지역에서 쓰이는 방언을 정리해 놓은 방언 사전이다. 방언도 언어이므로, ≪표준국어대사전≫의 부피를 떠올려보면, 800여 면 그리고 6700여 표제어에이르는 이 사전이 방대하다고 하기는 어려울지 모른다. 하지만 필자에게는“찾으면 다 나오네!” 하는 감탄을 하기에 이 사전이 결코 얇지 않다. 이 사전을 뒤적여 본 다른 어떤 연구자도 이 점을 부인하기는 쉽지 않을 것이라 생각되므로, 굳이 언급하지 않아도 알 수 있는 이 사전의 많은 장점을 기리기보다는 본고에서는 티끌보다 적을 아쉬운 점을 포함하여 몇 가지 특징 및 보완할 점을 표제어 부분과 뜻풀이 부분 그리고 추가할 사전 조항(article) 부분으로 나누어 제시하고자 하였는데, 본고를 통해 이 사전이 더 여러 연구자에 의해 참고되기를 바라 마지않는다.
This paper is a book review of Jeong Seokho(2007). Since dialects are languages, it may be difficult to say that this 800－page dictionary is thick. But for me, this dictionary was never short of admiration. I don't think it will be easy for any other researcher who has looked through this dictionary to deny this point, so in this paper, rather than honoring these advantages of this dictionary, I would like to present some characteristics, including a few regrettable points that are less than dust. It is hoped that this dictionary will be referenced by more researchers through this paper.
