This study aims to analyze text-theme using text linguistics methods to investigate why editorials of 《Dongnipsinmun》 have multi- functionality. Editorials of 《Dongnipsinmun》 have an information function, a combination of information function and obligation function, and an appeal function, the general characteristic of newspaper editorials. Editorials of 《Dongnipsinmun》 have multiple functions because any texts that text producers intend to change attitudes in text recipients are considered editorials. Changed attitudes in text recipients, intended in texts, are caused by enlightenment by accepting ‘Gae-wha.’It especially aims for independence externally, establishing civil rights internally. To that end, methods include abolishing old customs, reforming policies, educational development, and accepting new knowledge. The thematic developmen models of editorials of 《Dongnipsinmun》 include narrative theme development model, the descriptive theme development model, and argumentative theme development model. Among them, the narrative theme development model plays a role in delivering the content easily and intuitively.
