「헤어질 결심」에는 융이 제안한 집단 무의식 층위의 신화적 원형성이 내재한다. 영화 전반에 반복적으로 출현하는 원형적 어머니상(Archetypal Mother-Imago)이 그 대표적인 예이다. 서래는 ‘양육하는 어머니’이자 ‘죽음의 어머니’라는 신화적 이중성을 띠고 있다. 모태와 죽음의 이미지를 동시에 담은 시각적 표상들도 등장하는데, 특히 서래가 스스로를 바다에 매장하는 결말은 신화적인 ‘자기 수태’를 강하게 환기한다. 나아가 어머니 원형상은 ‘산-부성적 세계’와 ‘바다-모성적 세계’의 대극을 이루며 상징적 그물망을 형성한다. 이는 산과 바다가 중첩된 형상의 청록색 벽지, 외할아버지의 『산해경』을 한글로 옮겨 쓴 서래의 공책 표지 등으로 시각화된다. 이를 충분히 의미화하기 위해 이 글은 융 분석심리학의 관점을 도입한다. 「헤어질 결심」의 심층적 서사를 두 주인공 해준과 서래의 무의식적 드라마로 볼 때, 아버지/어머니 원형상은 부성/모성 콤플렉스 문제로 이어진다. 먼저 해준을 중심으로 한 영화의 심층 서사는 그가 ‘모성적 아니마’인 서래에게 이끌리면서 겪는 혼란과 갈등의 이야기로, 이는 그의 내면 깊숙이 숨겨진 모성 콤플렉스 문제와 닿아 있다. 서래는 해준이 고통스러운 방식으로 자신의 어두운 무의식과 연결되도록 이끄는 역할을 한다. 한편 서래의 입장에서 보면, 그녀는 ‘어머니와의 동체성’에 묶인 채 자기 어머니의 부성 콤플렉스를 물려받은 인물이다. 서래에게 해준과의 만남은 그녀가 부성/모성 콤플렉스의 예속에서 벗어나 자기 자신이 되기 위한 변화의 과정에 중요한 영향을 미친다. 이 글에서는 이 과정이 어떤 원형적 상징과 시각적 표상으로 나타나는지 구체적으로 살피고, 그 의미에 대해 생각해본다.
The Movie <Decision to Leave> contains the mythological archetypes at the level of the collective unconscious, which is proposed by C. G. Jung. The prime example of this is archetypal Mother-Imago appearing repeatedly in the film. Seorae has the mythical duality of 'Nurturing mother' and 'Killing Mother'. We can also see visual representations that contain images of motherhood and death simultaneously. In specific, the ending of Seorae burying herself in the sea evokes the mythical 'self‐impregnation' strongly. Furthermore, this film includes the symbolic opposition between the 'mountain-paternal world' and the 'sea-maternal world'. This is visualized as a turquoise wallpaper with the shape of overlapping mountains and seas, and the cover of Seorae's notebook written down Sanhaegyeong. This essay applies the perspective of Jungian psychoanalysis to those aspects in this film to signify abundantly. When we view the deep narrative in <Decision to Leave> as the unconscious drama of those two main characters Haejun and Seorae, the archetypal image of father/mother leads to the problem of the Paternal/Maternal complex. First, the deep narrative centered on Haejun in this film is a story of the confusion and conflict that he experiences when he is attracted to Seorae, who is 'Maternal Anima'. This goes along with the problem of the Mother complex hidden deep inside him. Seorae plays a role in leading Haejun to connect with his dark unconscious in a painful way. On the other hand, from Seorae's point of view, she is a person who inherited her mother's Father complex while being tied to identification with her mother. To Seorae, the meeting with Haejun has an important influence on the process of change in which she breaks away from the subjugation of the Paternal/Maternal complex and becomes herself. This essay specifically examines how this process is shown up in the archetypal symbols and visual representations, and considers its significance.
