본 논문은 기독교 신학 안에서 뜨겁게 논의되어 왔던 인간의 자유의지를 삼위일체적 관점에서 조명하고 있다. 인간의 자유의지는 죄의 기원과 원죄, 하나님의 주권 그리고 인간의 구원과 같은 중요한 신학적 교리들과 함께 논의되었기 때문에 자유의지에 대한 개념을 신학적으로 정리하는 것이 매우 어려운 문제였다. 하나님의 은혜와 주권을 강조하는 신학자들은 원죄 가운데 전적으로 타락한 인간의 자유의지에 대해 부정적인 입장을 견지해 왔다. 반면에 인간의 자유의지가 인간의 구원과 그리스도인의 삶에 중요하다고 생각하는 신학자들은 오히려 하나님의 은혜와 주권을 약화시켜 왔다. 하나님의 주권을 강조하면 인간의 자유의지가 약화되고, 인간의 자유의지를 강조하면 하나님의 주권이 약화되는 기현상이 기독교 역사 안에 나타났다. 하나님의 주권과 자유의지의 관계를 대립과 논쟁의 관계에서 상생과 조화의 관계로 변화시킬 수 있는 신학적 대안이 바로 삼위일체적 자유의지론이다. 삼위일체적 자유의지론은 첫째, 교회사 속에 나타난 자유의지 논쟁을 살펴본다. 아우구스티누스, 루터, 칼빈 그리고 웨슬리의 신학을 통해 인간의 자유의지가 죄의 기원(원죄), 하나님의 주권 그리고 인간의 구원과 어떠한 신학적 연계점을 함유하고 있는지 분석할 것이다. 둘째, 교회사 속에 나타난 성부 하나님의 주권사상, 성자 예수 그리스도의 대속사역, 그리고 성령의 성화사역과 자유의지와의 관계를 삼위일체적 관점에서 연구할 것이다. 마지막으로 삼위일체적 자유의지론을 통해 성부와 성자와 성령이 상생과 협력의 관계로 존재하듯이, 하나님의 주권과 인간의 자유의지도 대립과 분리의 관계가 아닌 조화와 협력의 관계라는 결론을 얻게 될 것이다.
This paper sheds light on human free will, which has been greatly discussed in Christian theology, from a trinitarian perspective. Since human free will was discussed together with important theological doctrines such as the origin of sin and the original sin, God's sovereignty, and human salvation, it was a very difficult problem to organize the concept of free will in theology. Theologians who emphasize God's grace and sovereignty have maintained a negative position on the free will of humans which was completely corrupted through the original sin. On the other hand, theologians who think that human free will is important in human salvation and Christian life have rather weakened God's grace and sovereignty. A rather strange phenomenon has emerged in Christian history in which an emphasis on God's sovereignty weakens human free will, and an emphasis on human free will weakens God's sovereignty. A theological alternative that can change the relationship between God's sovereignty and free will from a relationship of confrontation and debate to a relationship of harmony and cooperation is a trinitarian free will. A trinitarian free will first examines the debate on free will in church history. Through the theology of Augustine, Luther, Calvin, and Wesley, I will analyze what theological connection human free will has with the origin of sin (original sin), God's sovereignty, and human salvation. Second, I will study from a trinitarian perspective the relationship between free will and the sovereignty of God the Father, the redemptive work of the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit's sanctification. Finally, just as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit exist in a relationship of co-relationship and cooperation, this paper will come to a conclusion that God's sovereignty and human free will are not a relationship of confrontation and separation, but a relationship of harmony and cooperation.
