The purpose of this study is to examine (i)nama, which functions as a hedge and booster in newspaper editorial text, and discuss it with syntactic patterns. To this end, this study first extracted the sentences in which ‘(i)nama’ was realized using BigKinds. Then, using Excel, the semantic function as a hedge/booster expression of ‘(i)nama’ and their syntactic realization patterns were inductive identified. It was found that ‘(i)nama’ can perform both the functions of hedge and booster according to the context, and this study tried to see it as due to the semantic domains inherent in it. Among its semantic domains, [acceptance at an unsatisfactory level] functions as a hedge when activated, and [the least of the accepted levels] functions as a booster when activated, which could be described as a scale reversal. This study is meaningful if it was first targeted at newspaper editorials that were not well covered in previous discussions. And this study has academic significance in that it has proven that auxiliary particles can be used as hedges or boosters.
