In Modern China, the theory of population received attention in connection with China’s survival and prosperity. It sparked the debate on the birth control, and led to the debate on the issue of women’s liberation. Women were considered as tools of childbirth in the traditional society, but they were recognized as autonomous subjects to make decisions in childbirth and parenting. Through debates, women could stand as members of society as beings who have rights, not as beings who were bound to the family and traditional morality.
