≪詩經原始≫는 淸 方玉潤(1811-1883)이 同治(1862~1874) 연간 저작이다. 方玉潤의 《詩經》 해석은 漢·唐代 詩經學 또는 宋代 詩經學의 울타리를 벗어나 經文 자체에서 의미를 추구하고 또 詩를 가지고 詩를 논하는 방식을 취하였다. 이에 그의 저작은 崔述의 《讀風偶識》 및 姚際恒의 《詩經通論》과 함께 독립적 연구 성과로 평가되고 있다. 본고는 ‘淫詩’ 혐의가 제기된 시들에 대한 해석을 중심으로 연구를 진행하였다. 《詩經》의 ‘淫詩’에 대한 논의는 春秋 시기부터 그 흔적을 찾을 수 있으나 다수의 시편들에 대하여 淫詩로 규정한 이는 宋 朱子이다. ‘淫詩’로 지목된 시를 그대로 ‘淫詩’로 받아들일 것인가의 문제는 《詩序》 및 朱子 詩經學에 대한 수용과 배격의 문제와 연결되어 있다. 方玉潤은 ≪詩經原始≫에서 각 시편의 제목 아래에 새로 詩序를 제출하여 기존의 《詩序》를 대신하였으며, 〈自序〉, 〈凡例〉, 〈詩無邪太極圖說〉 〈詩旨〉 및 음시 혐의가 제기된 시편에 대한 釋義에서 朱子 詩經學의 주요 주제인 淫詩說을 부정하였다.
『Sikyungwonshi詩經原始』 was written by Bang Okyun方玉潤(1811-1883) in the Qing淸 Dynasty during the reign of Dongchi同治(1862-1874). Bang Okyun's interpretation of 『Sikyung詩經』 went beyond the research framework of the Song Dynasty's study of poetry as well as the study of poetry by the Han and Tang dynasties. It pursued meaning in the text of the scriptures itself and took the method of discussing poetry with poetry. Accordingly, his writings are evaluated as independent research achievements along with Choi Sul崔述's 『Dokpungwuji讀風偶識』 and Yo Jehang 姚際恒's 『Sikyungtonglon詩經通論』. This study conducted research centering on the interpretation of the poems that were suspected of being 'obscene poems淫詩'. The discussion of 'obscene poetry淫詩' in 『Sikyung』 can be found from the Spring and Autumn春秋 period. However, the person who defined several poems as 'obscene poems淫詩' was Zhu Hi朱熹 of the Song宋 Dynasty. Whether or not to acknowledge the poems designated as 'obscene poems' is related to the issue of acceptance and rejection of 『Preface to Poetry詩序』 and Zhu Hi's study of 『Sikyung』. Bang Okyun devised a new Preface to Poetry under the title of each poem in 『Sikyungwonshi詩經原始』, replacing the existing 『Poetry Preface』. Also, in 〈author's foreword自序〉, 〈general rule凡例〉, 〈Taegeuk diagram and its theory about the absence of evil spirit in poetry詩無邪太極圖說〉, 〈the meaning of 『Sikyung』詩旨〉, and in the explanation of the so-called 'obscene poem', he denied the theory of lewd poetry, the main theme of Zhu Hi's study of 『Sikyung』.
