본 논문에서는 미국과 중국 간 이른바 패권경쟁 속에서 한국이 모색해야 할 전략적 선택지를 살펴볼 것이다. 첫째, 문재인 정부의 외교정책을 검토하고 평가할 것이다. 둘째, 미·중 패권경쟁의 전개 양상을 살펴보고 이것이 한국에 미칠 영향을 분석할 것이다. 마지막으로 한국이 전략적으로 어떤 판단을 해야 하는지 논의할 것이다. 결론적으로, 문재인 정부가 취해 온 ‘전략적 모호성’에서 탈피해 ‘전략적 명료성’을 표방해야 함을 강조할 것이다. 군사와 경제 두 분야에서 굳건한 한미동맹을 구축하면서 한국의 독자적인 역량을 동시에 키워나가야 한다.
This paper examines South Korea’s strategic options amidst the so-called hegemonic war between the United States and China. First, it critically examines the Moon Jae-In administration’s foreign policy. Second, it analyzes the status of the hegemonic war between the US and China and its implications for South Korea. Finally, it suggests what South Korea should do regarding its strategy. It concludes that South Korea should shift away from so-called ‘strategic ambiguity,’ which is the current position of the Moon government, to ‘strategic clarity,’ focusing more on a robust alliance and its own resilient capability both in the military and economic domains.
